Good and Evil are often said to represent two forces of the Universe that struggle to maintain the balance. Yin Yang tells that in each of them there's a smallest part of the other. And that goes for an eternity.
I've combined the symbolism of colors of Yin Yang with the motive of Ouroboros, a snake eating its own tail: the symbol of eternity.
I'm glad I made this picture, it was an opportunity to learn a lot, especially in the department of textures: it's my first metal, fur and feathers, so I expect there to be quite some faults in them, but to learn I decided to use no custom content for that, and instead experimented with help of various tutorials from DeviantArt.
I used and modified NASA photography for the space. Other than that, I used a free brush by Adam Woodhouse for the blood under the claws of the black dragon (in case it was important to mention it, I never know with the huge and scary legality rules ): ).

This is incredible. I really like how you've avoided making the earth look flat - the textures you've got makes it look like the earth is being torn apart by the opposing forces.

I love this piece, when I saw it I just thought : Uroboros ! And reading your description I was right ! I really like the opposition of the two creatures, the good one ( angel ?! kind of ^^ ) and the bad one ( let's say a vampire, well a dark creature )
I say vampire but for me vampire has a vast meaning, a human can be a vampire, sucking your strenght with bad vibes, etc ..., a bad friend making you down more than anything else can be seen as a vampire from me ^^
Sorry for the babble -_-

I love this piece. It was among hundreds of deviation notices and I only decided to click on this one. Haha.
I love the use of movement, for sure.
Keep it up.

Good book that, though I remember it as two snakes, one for the "real world" and the other for Fantasia.

I don't remember what snakes meant in that book, I've read it when I was still a child and only remembered the motive of snakes. The title just came to me as I, most likely conconsciously, connected the snakes to the cover of that book. I didn't think of what they meant in there, nice catch. I have to reread it once, I wonder if I'd still like it as much as I did back then

It wasn't mentioned in the book, I found it in a review about the book. The AURYN is a symbol of the two worlds or to quote: The two snakes represent the dual nature of the two worlds, Fantastia and Reality, but also the twin nature of their mutual creation and destruction.

I've only heard before what Yin-Yang represents, dual natre of humans and, good and evil etc etc, I wonder if the fantasy/reality dualism had anything in common with Yin-Yang theories, as according to what you say they sound very much similar, just taken to another subject. And de-colorized.

Well in AURYN's case, it is the adjoining nature of reality, dreams, and the truth and lies that result from them.
