Description

Aww these two are so cute ;w;

They're Cheloxes, which is a species that I'm currently making

Link (the grey one) has a semi-crush on Maud (the pink/purple/green one).

Also, they're both wearing masks! Link wears a white mask, which changes based on his mood, but it only has emoticon symbols. (Like .M. is embarrassed). And Maud wears a TV mask that digitizes her face (i.e she's actually winking under the mask.) Maud can take of her face to reveal a regular Chelox face (dots for eyes, no nose) but Link does not take off his mask. (he's injured; you can see part of the scar on his neck.)

Ughh Maud was so hard to draw X"D

Characters (Link and Maud ) and art belong to me / Wingbeatt

The colors are very simple, easy to understand color palette so I sort of understand the mood you were going for which is good. For the creature on the left, it's hard to tell what animal it is because of the face, even if it is a cartoony style. I recommend studying animals from life and then simplifying it from there. Maybe look at other animal styles you like and learn from that. The shading is a little confusing, maybe study where the light source is coming from? Also, I recommend working on the shading technique, the soft shading is okay but keep it consistent, or do cell shading for this style, but it's what you deem fit. But overall the piece is easy to see and has easily recognizable characters, so good job with that! Keep up the work!

Thank you for the critique!

First of all, I get the point about the anatomy. However, they're really thin, noodle-like creatures, which is why they're skinny. And the gray one is wearing a mask, which displays cartoony emoticons based on his emotions.

And I complete get the point about the shading X"D I'm still practicing on it. And yes, lots of people say the cell shading is better, but I don't know. I just prefer this "soft shading."

Thank you again for the critique!

I get it and I get the anatomy, it's just in the face that makes it hard to tell what animal they are. Old cartoons do a good job at this, so maybe look at those, even with a mask. But the mask concept is unique so I'd definitely stick with that!. I also prefer soft shading, but maybe avoid shading with greys? Maybe take a purple on a multiply layer and do that to give it more demention, but that's just my suggestion! Thanks for listening and I can't wait to see more of your art in the future!
