Thanks!!!! Kind of crazy that the ink ended up looking like a monster, but I'm glad that's the way it turned out.

I love how some of it is a little out of focus. It gives it a fuzzy, monster-like feel.
Oh hey, it's supposed to be a Ceiling MONSTER! Awesome

Thanks! I dropped ink into a glass jar with water in it. The jar was backlit by a lightbox. And I took picts from there.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
As for post editing I used iPhoto for this image. (I don't have photoshop available at this time.) Basically, I put the saturation all the way down to make it a black and white image. From there I adjust the contrast slightly, and the rest of the fine tunings of the whites and blacks come from using the exposure and levels adjusters. The exposure and levels give the image more of a sharp contrast, but at the same time if I adjust them to extremes I would lose/gain some of the wisps of ink. It's about finding a balance that works for the image.
I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.
Bummer about the color dissolving. What kind of editing were you doing with them?

Thanks!!!
Taking picts like this is pretty easy to do. I used a glass jar with water in it, and then I dropped ink into the water. From there I took pictures of the ink expanding and mixing with the water. (I also used a fluorescent lightbox behind the jar for the lighting.) The black and white were a part of post editing. Definitely a fun process, and there are so many shapes that appear each time that the ink is dropped in the water. I would say to give it a try and see what you come up with.
If you have any more questions about the process let me know.

let me guess: the motive was black ink dropped in a pinch of water?

You are correct. I dropped black ink into a jar of water and then took picts.
