What a sweet picture this is
I know from experience that when a cat suffers that kind of attention from a child, they do care about them - if not, a paw across the cheek would solve the situation quickly enough XD
Therefore, I find your title for the picture fitting even though at first glance it might look more like they're fighting than showing love
This is a simple picture; it is not the boy or the cat that are important as much as the relationship between them. This is emphasised by the background being empty and out of focus. Our eyes are drawn to the pair, and kept there.
I agree with the other commenters that the colours seem to bring this picture to life and give it a slightly more idealistic feel.
The link for the black & white version didn't work, I take it you were convinced and decided to keep just the coloured one, then?
Would have been interesting to see the other version, though I do believe I would end up deciding that I liked this one better

Each of the versions looks good in it's own way. The black and white version is rather abstracted, while the colored version brings the picture to life. I love both photographs, actually.

This is one of those moments that just needs to be caught. A beautiful scene with nature vs boy. Often a very good genetic scene to capture with the camera.
