Description Totally scratch built. No pony was sacrificed in the making.

Features include:

- 4 1/2 inches on all fours (can stand on hind legs, but better supported by the tail)
- A custom built internal plastic skeleton made from a construction toy called the robot memo clip.
- All joints are true ball and socket joints and can be detached

- 26 Points of Articulation like::

* double ball joints ("barbell" ball joints) on all 4 main leg joints
* 3 points of articulation on the neck alone
* 2 points of articulation on the tail
* EARS are ARTICULATED, with ball joints made from 6mm Japanese pre-biodegradable airsoft BBs (1990s).

- Face is swappable, with 3 faces made, one already with hand painted eyes.
- Upper mane is removable to swap faces and remove lower mane
- Lower mane is made from FLEXIBLE MOLDED SILICONE RUBBER so it will not hinder with posing. (Even for regular custom action figure makers, I've never heard anyone do it. Then again, I've never seen a fully poseable pony either.) Silicone used is 50 year architectural grade, RTV, clear mixed with pink acrylic.
- Body is made from 2 types of 2 part epoxy clay resin (one fast setting but hard, the other slow setting for sculpting), took around 5 packs to finish!
- Cutie marks are hand painted on both sides and are mirror imaged.

Paints used are (actually any paint I still have lying around) Vallejo Model Colors, Tamiya enamels and acrylics, Gunze Sangyo Aqueous colors, and finished with Mr. Color Top Coat Flat Clear.

Total time spent, my free time everyday for over a month! Yes I'm totally out of my mind.

Good work for a prototype, but I'm sure you know as well as I do that there's definitely room for improvement here. Do you intend to develop further versions?

Definitely. I wanted a lot of function and features from materials with some limitations so form wasn't totally show accurate. Kinda like a naked fully articulated human doll. Confound these ponies for not wearing clothes! Next project will have less articulation and features but more pony looking.

Material limitations are certainly a pain in the ass for anyone who works with physical mediums, but I'm sure you can find ways to overcome them. Just out of curiosity, have you looked at any other figure lines for design inspiration? Would something like Figma's joint design be helpful at all? Or even Revoltech, since they deal a lot with robots with very cylindrical limbs. I suggest taking a look at Revoltech's Tetsujin 28 for some ideas.

I definitely look forward to it!

I wanted to pattern the pony action figure after Figma and Revoltech, since I really like their products. I admit Figma was the inspiration behind the swappable face idea. I searched everywhere for a hobby store that sells the joints but then I saw the robot memo clip on sale and decided upon it. Figma's offset peg knee joints would make great front leg joints because they are thin and a pony's knee movement is the same.

I have several Hasbro 3 1/4 figures, an X-23 marvel legends and even a super poseable doll from Takara. The headache is that I don't have an animal base. I'm hoping somebody would post detailed pics of the predator dog that came out recently.

Well thanks the suggestions! I really hope you stay around to see the results!

The swappable face is definitely a nice touch, so I hope it make a comeback at some point in the future. If I recall, HLJ carries some spare figma joints. At any rate, don't be afraid to experiment since what you're doing is pretty original. It just occurred to me that Revoltech has actually made a horse action figure to go with their Raoh figure, so that might help.

Don't think I want to sell this one, aside from the materials alone rack up to more than what I paid for my ROTF leader class Optimus Prime, it's just a prototype where I threw in every idea I had, most worked, fortunately, though some problems still need to be addressed in another project.

I did document the creation with my phone cam, so maybe I'll post the process sometime.

Incredible work! Loved that you've posed her both sitting drinking her juice box and also firing her rifle as well.

Thank you! ^^ I'm a big fan of the artworks of her with juice boxes and rifles so I wanted her to be able to pose with them.

You done them justice by creating a real life counterpart to them. Well as real life as you can get a pastel yellow pony firing a rifle.

You must have worked very hard on this

a8702131 In reply to sergeant16bit [2012-03-04 06:28:00 +0000 UTC]

Quite hard. There was no precedent for a fully articulated MLP action figure so it was a lot of trial and error up to the end. Well half the fun is in the attempt to do what's not done before anyways.

Kyle-Doma In reply to ??? [2012-03-04 04:48:16 +0000 UTC]

Now this is what I want to see in the MLP toyline: Fully articulated ponies! There is no excuse for why Hasbro can't make them considering they crank out rather well articulated GI Joe, Transformers, and Marvel figures. So why can't they make fully articulated ponies? Oh that's right because we have to market it all to the girls. Girls don't want to have adventures and stuff, they just want to brush hair all day....*sighs* At least someone out there shares my vision.

Doubt if Hasbro will ever give us exactly what we want. But I hope this and all the comments here reach them so at least they know it is possible and there is a market.

Probably not gonna happen as much as we want it too, but it's better to try then to not do it at all.

None taken. I thought it strange too. But it was too late to retake so I just discreetly added it at the end. A better pick (with Lyra looking jelly is planned.)

That was part of the my mad design, I wanted her to be able to do even the most famous un-pony pose in the fandom. I had extra joints in neck and tail just for that pose alone. (I'll probably feature it with the proper face in the future.)
