I know I'm not active on here anymore in the mean time, but I felt this painting assignment was important to share.

I've had lots of people tell me to listen to my heart, but I feel a lot of the time the heart can be misleading and sometimes even destructive. It may tell you very mean things about others or yourself, things that aren’t true. And despite these things being untrue, I feel some of us fall into believing and finding a sense of security in these feelings. We may become so familiar with these negative thoughts that we’re too scared to believe anything that contradicts them because it’s “too good to be true” or something similar. This assignment prompt was “Dancing with Death” and I wanted to bring to light those who struggle with mental illness, self deprecation, and/or abusive situations. Becoming so familiar and “safe” in listening to our own toxic thoughts to the point where we don’t get the help we need I feel can be it’s own sort of dance with death.

So I want to give a well needed reminder: You have permission to stop listening. You have permission to believe better about yourself. You have permission to be happy. You are allowed to be loved, whether your heart or anyone else tells you otherwise.
