Well, I don't know, I don't like pencillines because I can't colour with it

Anyway it's very useful. Some parts of dragom anatomy are very well shown here, I think I will take looks at it very often

Handy tutorial. It's always nice to see how a variety of artists draw their dragons. You can start to see some things you like that other artists do a lot.

I've always thought that the hardest part of doing a dragon was giving it something unique. Mentally, I'm still stuck in the idea of the back being one color, the belly being another, and nothing really crossing between the two. XD But they always look so much better when you add details.

How long would you say it takes you to draw the lines? Based on this tutorial I would think that you can do it very quickly. You don't seem like one who wastes lines as you draw.

Thank you :3 yes the colours are hard especiallly while most still have those black/white good/evil thinking. You cannot imagine how often i get the question "Is Aarok evil?" lol i even made a whole FAQ question about it ^^.
Well and through this whole Spyro-hype two coloured dragons have become quiet popular...especially purple+yellow / black+red.

I needed 20 min for this here, without scanning etc. but well this is not that good work.

Zeimyth In reply to Aarok [2010-01-14 14:14:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm not really sure where people get the idea that white is inherently good and black is inherently evil... It sure makes the stereotypes fun to abuse, though. Next time there's a "good vs evil" contest, you should make a black dragon represent "good". XD

Oh, I sure hope my two-colored dragons aren't just riding off of some Spyro hype or anything like that. Nothing wrong with Spyro, I just... don't care for it. XD It certainly isn't the inspiration for how my dragons look. I guess I just draw my dragons this way because they look bad if I leave the bodies one color. I'm not great with color yet.

20 minutes is not bad at all for a sketch like this. Even if it's not that good of a sketch for you, I still think it looks like a nice enough sketch to do whatever you wanted to with. How long do you spend on the line art when you try to do a really nice job?

Aarok In reply to Zeimyth [2010-01-18 10:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes i dunno but in general its not that bad at all... it just teaches us that its not everything about the colours xD.

Well in general i don't have anything agains two colour charas but well ,since this Spyrohype nearly everybod draws a one coloured dragon with a second colour on belly and wings, and well that a colour steretype too for me.

For a good lineart?Β΄Depends on the pose with inking... 45 min up to and hour or more.

Zeimyth In reply to Aarok [2010-01-18 17:20:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true... This is one reason why I don't like assigning certain personalities to dragons with specific colors (even something like deciding the gender by the color). It's not like that for humans, after all! XD

You know, I never would have connected that two-color system with Spyro at all. XD I personally use three - one for the body, one for the belly, and one for the underside of the wings. I think it looks best this way, for dragons with scales or fur. But I think dragons with hide look best without a different color for their belly. Of course, they also have more room for random details of colors across their body.

Hmm, that doesn't seem that bad. Though, I guess when you consider the coloring time as well, the whole process starts to take a while.
