I'm so busy right now I'm going nuts. Apparently my meltdown this time is a cathartic bit of nostalgic art. I've been missing this old fandom lately... even though everything I made during that time makes me cringe violently. Once I finished the lineart I realized what a wonderfully generic fluff piece it was so I thought I'd atleast try out *zombie-fingers 's lighting trick on it to make it somewhat interesting.Does anyone know of any canon TMNT RPG groups?
I'd love to look into joining one but all the ones I've seen are infested with OCs and other.... repelling factors. I'll save you the rant. But I've been unable to find any really good groups. My standing theory is that if they're out there, they've hidden themselves SO well no one (especially not the noobs) can find them. So lemme know if you hear whispers.

I never watched Ninja Turtles growing up. Most of my knowledge of them is second hand . So, in order to do this critique, I did a google image search to help me establish a baseline for what TMNT art looks like. As far as I can tell, you've found a nice midground between the plump 80s style and the confusingly muscular later style. I like the compromise you found.
The cropping of this picture annoys me. You've cropped out a hand that's clearly in the middle of a gesture. The top of the picture has plenty of breathing room but the bottom is crammed together and large chunks are cropped off.
I don't entirely understand his pose. He has one arm out in front of him and other close to his side. From what we can see of his thighs, it looks like he has a wide stance. It's a goofy pose when you imagine what a full body shot would look like.
The way you drew the cloth looks nice. The lineart for the whole picture is an easy read. The viewer knows what everything is immediately.
I am less impressed by the shading. I know you were trying out a new style and you did successfully mimicked the picture that inspired you. However, other than on the shell, it doesn't really work for me. Donatello is looks like he's been polished he's so shiny. I know TMNT isn't exactly known for its realism but he's practically metallic. You can still put bright, sharp highlights on him but do it sparingly and add some softer sections too .
Also, the highlights on the very ends of his mask (below his armpit) are wonky. It doesn't read as cloth anymore.
While I wouldn't want a complex background with a picture this simple, I still don't like the gradient. We aren't so close that we couldn't make out basic background details. You could have put him in a sewer really easily. It'd just take a quick doodle of water in the negative space below his arm and a quick little circular doodle of a tunnel above the shoulder nearest us. The hard lighting could have been coming from a manhole, instead of just randomly from an unseen bright thing.
This is a fun cathartic doodle. You've clearly got the TMNT character design down pat. But there are some weird technical details that take away from the over all piece.

Oh, I completely agree about the cropping and pose. It started off as a doodle of just the face... and then the torso kind of followed and after I started outlining I thought he could use some arms which turned out to be a bad idea when I couldn't get his hand to fit properly into the picture. Sorta just awkward all around.
I want to make a joke about Turtle Wax and being shiny, but that's too hokey and overdone.
My goal this year is to really work on shading and lighting. I mostly do a lot of guesswork now so the feedback is really helpful to figure out what I'm doing wrong and how it reads to others.
But you know I HATE backgrounds :C

I took a peek around and found the format a little more confusing than I originally realized with accounts made in multiple canon and some OC characters names. Maybe I'll float around a while and watch before jumping in the pool.

I should have said but we have MNT Gaiden turtles (and other characters such as Shadow), SAINW turtles and 03 series turtles... ^^' It can be quite fun watching them all interact with each other. The only OC we really have is Viper... :3 but sure, feel free to be a stalker for a while xD
