EYE of the SHOAL, Chapter Four: IlluminationsThis was certainly one of my favorites of the whole book. So challenging and yet so much fun to draw these deep sea freaks.
Species from top to bottom; Cookie Cutter Shark, Lanternshark (Based off of the Ninja Lanternshark, discovered by my pal, badass shark biologist,Victoria Elena Vásquez ), Lanternfish, Pacifica Barreleye, Stoplight Loosejaw, Dragonfish, Bristlemouths, Illuminated Netdevil.

EYE OF THE SHOAL: A Fishwatcher's Guide to Life, the Ocean and Everything - is about to be released in the UK via Bloomsbury Sigma Publishing! Hoorah!
For the hundred days leading up to its release, the lovely and brilliant author of the book, Helen Scales , has been posting a pic a day of fish she photographed on her many journeys diving and gathering research for this book.
I will do a shoddy emulation of this and post an illustration a day for the week leading up to the UK release date on May 3rd, then more again for the US release date June 19th. I'll start with the big full page chapter illustrations - in chronological order of course.
