Description
The contest prompt was simple, an OC named Yumes interacting with the artist's own characters.Since I couldn't decide on a single shot, I figured a collection of "memories" from when my girls, Sarah and Ash, may have crossed paths with the pup would do.
I don't usually jump into things like this, time constraints being as severe as they are, but a friend referred this one to me and I thought I stood a good chance against the competition. Either way, since I made this at print size (that one is viewable via the download button to your right) it'll serve as a decent piece to drop into my con portfolio.
I missed drawing Sarah and Ash. This was fun, though I don't see myself doing this sort of thing too often in the future.Β

SORRY for the late reply a @ Work and crap and falling asleep like four hours earlier last night and junk and..sorry about the wait ^_^;;
But this is just some beautiful work and for working hard on it all day long, the artwork truly shows that!
First off, excellent job on Yumes, everything specified is not only there, but taken to the next step! Tail and Ear colors are the same, the cloths are just right, rarely is he drawn in the wooden sandals so again fantastic job there, and just yes~~! All the extra things I didn't even add! The flight, the flame sword, a very nice surprise to see included and I truly wasn't expecting it but I am very glad to see! Not to mention the weakness of under the chin, damn those spots and their controlling nature O/A/O!
But also the size of him and just that first panel I think sums up the pup to a T! Blushy, shy cutie XD
And just your girls are looking very lovely and adorable~ I love how they are interacting with Yumes and showing him around and such, and I don't know if this was intentional but I really like how the scenes are going through a day. Morning, Sunset, Night, a very nice touch~!
Also the lighting of the setting sun over that entire scene looks beautiful and and the night sky is looking amazing as is that moon and love the action scene cause again it's showing the RARELY so far seen "Battle Mode" Yumes, hehe he knows how to rumble when he needs to~ Quite good at it actually.
And just, I am low on time because work in steadily approaching, but just there is still so much more I could say about this! But just over all I have to say it is amazing, I love it, and you should be very proud of this~ You did wonderfully~!

I've got a fondness for pint-sized powerhouses, so I HAD to find some way to fit battle-mode Yumes in there. x3

I'm pretty stoked with how it came out. I'm glad I've put off the main story of Mastery this long if for no other reason than my art is that much better for that all-important opening. Ash's hair is a guilty pleasure of mine xD
TBH, the flame sword was from a tektek avatar. I wasn't sure if it was an on-hand weapon or something he generates via a flame power. Either way, knowing his power base I couldn't have paired him with anyone better xD

Whoa didn't expect this. Took a little longer than I should admit for me to get why Sarah was making that quip in "panel" one. That fucking GRIN in panel two with the teefs. Ash's nonsense-speak in panel three. Is that supposed to be KH2-esque sea-salt ice cream in panel four? Also why is Ash just casually resting her foot on a ROCK. Ow D: Pretty much all the panels have some good background stuff going for them. And then Ash's reaction in panel 5. "Goddamn another fire user how does this keep happening to me?"
Looks like after your recent Rei revamp, you've stepped up your eyebrow game. Kudos sir.

I knew someone would think that was sea-salt ice cream xD Β Also, when you go around barefoot as much as Ash does, that's actually a fairly comfy foot-rest. This gal could cross a parking lot without wincing with just as much footwear, little pebbles and all.
Nostrils and eyebrows, my friend. So much expression can be found in those two things. I was sabotaging myself pretty harshly before I started paying more attention to them.

The plan is for there to be another, much shorter prequel comic that will use pages of this size as opposed to the 4koma format. It'll star Sarah and Ash and lay down a bit of character establishment for them.
After that, the main story will FINALLY get underway.
I'll admit, this is also kind of a stalling tactic to let me get everything written and for a website to get made where I can post this off of DeviantART.
