You do realize rodnovers are nothing more than a sect from 90ies, do you?

Rodnover is the general term given to practitioners of Slavic neo-paganism, which became a practice in the Romanticist movement of the 19th century. It's also the most available on-hand word that simplifies a title better than "Pagan Slavic-Cheeki-Breeki Fluttershy".

The word Rodnover itself (or Rodnovery) means "Native Faith/Truth".

The creation of official Rodnover groups in 90's Russia correlates to the end of the Soviet regime and a moment of relative freedom in the post-Soviet chaos, since the Tzars would have no doubt no part of a official pagan revival to break the autocratic alliance of the possessor monks from the 16th century. And Soviets just will not have religion; especially something as considerably "reactionary" as neo-paganism.

>Cheeki-Breeki?
Got too much Stalker lately?

Whatever history sites may say, contemporary rodnover is barely more than an asshole with less-than-satisfactory history knowledge and very primitive, nazi-type view of the whole idea, heavily biased by phallic symbols wherever they can find it.

The whole movement is one great shame from the beginning to the end.

Romanticist movements will have a that in them.

Removed from it though, I feel a sort of aesthetic attraction to it in the same vein as people drool over Vikings. I guess one could compare the Dark, pre-Christian era of Europe as being sort of like the West here in America, but with more swords and heavy-metal photo-ops. Proper-Wild West America has been adopted by the American Country image.

I get it.
Indeed, the Slavic aesthethic has something in it. However, typical rodnover aesthethic is indeed closer to vikings, as you've aptly noted.

Actual Slavic aesthetic is pretty much shifted towards asian and mongol.

I really recommend you a movie called "Ogniem i mieczem" (With Fire and Sword). It is a Polish historic movie about Ukraine with splendid visuals and costumes (especially for Polish movie, yes)

I have been exploring a lot of foreign movies. I've mostly been on a Chinese kick for reasons. But I'll make sure to find time for that at some point, if I can find it on Netflix.

And I suppose the Norse-Slavic relationship can be explained away by the Varangian Rus.
