this took me the whole dam week sweating all over the place n hurting my back to finish it... done with color pencils on A1 sized dark blue antique black card.. its a movie poster design of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events i did for my college illustration assignment.. i think i took more than 30 or 35 hrs... hope u all like it^^Related content

Have you also read the books? I'm stil waiting for the Dutch translation of the last 3 books...But I love the other ones =]
And I know I can also read them in English, but I've started reading in Dutch so I want to finish in Dutch, dunno why XD

Holy cow, that looks so damn good! That's freaking crazy. One week, that's long, but the results are priceless. It turned out AMAZING!! Holy smokes, still can't get over it! Awesome job man!

haha.. thanks! but i din get A.. no one gets A for figure drawing in our college.. unless the lecturer thinks that u r so gd even enough for the industry.. normally gd ones get B- only n thats wat i get.. nowadays pple who get B n B+ r considered very very gd.. only a few in the last ten yrs got A b4.. i hope i can get A one day..

This is really beautiful...great choice of colors and background color...beautiful use of the white for the lights. THis would've been a great poster for the movie...cool movie btw

well that's not an impossible goal...you did a great job with the composition...all you have to do is start using some digital program like Photoshop, and start coming up with ideas

the lecturer din like the composition.. he said that the main subjects r all too lose n very lil overlapping.. n the skin colors r almost the same.. n there is no focus point n stuff.. so i think i still got a lot to improve..

oh ok...one thing I could see, that you didn't have a focus point. But that is just with practice...is not so hard noticing after a while, and the colors are just for the same thing, making one image in front and the others in the background. Trust me I learned this not a long time ago...
but you can always check out other movie posters and you'll realize how they follow this rules...

different movie posters hav diff concepts.. the composition wil hav to depend on the movie sumtimes.. sum posters r very symmetrycal.. but sometimes too symmetrycal is not nice.. its easy to make a focus point with pencil coz its easy to fade off.. but its harder with colors coz u hav to b realistic n its hard to simplify the figures n use lesser colors.. but im working on it.. one way i learnt recently of fading off colored illustrations is to use a lighter or brighter color for the darkest tones or shadows

yeah you're right...I'm always into more simplistic posters...like the matrix ones...they just have one image, and white or black background. But yeah that is basically color theory, and is not only used for posters...for any kind of composition...practice is key
