I'm glad you like it, but I think Paramount would object to any sort of poster sales. Besides, there are many others on here with much better images. Check out (arcas-art.deviantart.com/) for what I consider the best Trek art on Deviant.

Yes! I did not expect someone to take the Multitronics concept and go with it. After all the tech was fine, it was the fact it was based on the engrams of an stressed out Dr. Daystrum. Yet it wouldn't be the first tech trek showed once, then forgot. Love your M6 and I see its a series too. Fantastic and thank you!

Seeing this, I'm tempted to find a TOS ship of my own and write a story about it. Keep up the great work, Mr. Connors. I really enjoy your renders.

Feel free to call be Bill or Liam or Kon or Aba. But you don't have to call me Mr. Connors.

However, I am very thankful that you spelled Connors correctly. Most people don't.

Great POV - the model really holds up well for this kind of shot.

Not a comment about your picture, of course, but doesn't having the deflector in front of the Bussard collector kind of defeat the purpose? It's like a whale having a cowcatcher that sweeps away all the krill as it's swimming, ultimately starving the whale. Or a leaf blower mounted on the front of a mulcher! This is the one design element I think Franz really FUBARed, and we're all following along with it ...

celticarchie In reply to Ptrope [2012-07-13 02:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Well I thought about that, and I though that the deflector on a ship like the Enterprise would push all the hydrogen (assuming that's what the Bussard's a collecting) away from the ship, and the Bussard's would pulling it all in, creating a push-me-pull-you effect.

Then it hit me. What if the deflector has different settings? What if it can be set to push away all space dust/gas/debris, expect the stuff we want.

Wasn't the "bussard collector" idea tacked on long after these designs were made?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

celticarchie In reply to AbaKon [2012-07-13 02:34:43 +0000 UTC]

Actually no. The ol' bussard concept was made in the 1960s [link] Gene & Matt had loads of real space research material at the time so stands to reason he'd have wanted to incorporate that real science into Trek, he was very keen on that from the beginning, just because he didn't put it all on page one of the script of The Cage, doesn't mean he/they didn't think about it. First rule of Sci-Fi writing: the audience doesn't need to know how the futuristic engines work, the just need to know that they do.

So much for a little comment!

I love you, Si.

RobCaswell In reply to AbaKon [2012-07-12 19:21:39 +0000 UTC]

Well.... yes.
And no.
In the seventies they got labeled as "matter intakes". Essentially the same function, but different name. But they were assigned that (I think first by Geoff Mandel) AFTER the publication of the Tech Manual. So.... draw whatever conclusions you want from that

You COULD say that the collection field is more like a funnel extending out from the nacelle cap instead of a cone. That actually makes just as much if not more sense. Thus the "funnel surface" would not cut through the deflector... or maybe just cuts through the support. At any rate I can see if working just fine using a little fudgey super science, like being able to create an asymmetric collection field.

Ehh, it's still a really bad design, IMHO - I know there are all kinds of tales of structural integrity fields and whatnot, but that dish out there on that leetletiny spindle has always looked horribly under-engineered, to me. YMMV . (With that huge, robust concentric mounting setup on Enterprise, I always wondered why Franz thought, "Hey, why not a toothpick, and 90° to the axis, to boot?" )

I HOPE it's not Daystrom's work as he's now a 100% certified Mad Scientist!
Cool image. That's the nice things about those Greywolf-Starkiller models - they have enough detail to support "intimate camera views"
So what happens if M-6 crashes... or gets a virus from a stray subspace signal?

I'm sure there's no danger of anything going wrong with M-VI. After 5 earlier models, you can feel certain the bugs have been worked out.

The Fourth Law of Robotics (as told by C-3PO): When in doubt, head down to maintenance.

Hehe! Ya kinda pre-epted me I was going to do an image with the M-4 robot from 'Requiem for Methuselah' maybe with a few bits added on to make it M-VI (oooh posh Roman numerals) sitting in the captain's chair.
