Description
'Midna, Midna, Midna…' Link muttered as he strolled around the shadows of the Twilight Realm. 'Let's see, if I was a princess where would I be? Actually, it wouldn't be too bad if I was a princess. Maybe I should ask Zelda seeing as I saved Hyrule and all that. Then again, that dress wouldn't really suit me, especially not like this.' Link sighed and leant against a wall. Even if he wanted to he could not get very far in his current state. He looked up at the orange sky and then he realized what he was leaning against. 'Gee, Link, how could you miss a whopping great castle?' He asked himself, banging his head against the wall for emphasis. As he did so a strange rumbling sound erupted from the wall and a small section of it slid away. 'Well, that was unexpected,' Link thought as he crawled into the tunnel the wall had revealed. After about an hour of getting lost, going in circles and constant backtracking, Link finally found the end of the tunnel. 'Who makes all these secret passages anyway? I mean, what are they really here for?' He thought as he squeezed out. Standing up on all fours he looked around. He was on a small platform, only just big enough for him to stand on, in a large square room. The only other feature was a large wooden pole in the centre, seeming to stretch on forever. Looking down, Link could not make out any sort of floor, only an endless pit of darkness. Above him seemed almost the same but a tiny pinprick of light shone down through a hole in the ceiling. Seeing no other option, Link closed his eyes and leaped. Praying to the Goddesses that it would work he stretched his front legs out until he could just touch the pole with his paws and dug his claws in. To Link's relief, they stayed in and he hung there for a moment, catching his breath. He started climbing up, digging his claws into the pole. Eventually he reached the top.
The first thing someone would do when they've just squeezed their head through a hole in the ceiling is look up. But when Link did this the first thing he saw was up Midna's skirt. The pole room was directly below Midna, the Twilight Princess' bedroom. Since that day two months ago, Link had prayed for the time he would get to see his friend. He just didn't think their reunion would begin so perversely.
'Still, it could be worse; If Zant was still the ruler of the Twilight Realm I could be looking up his skirt right now.' Link thought.
Midna gazed out of the window over her kingdom. Since she and Link had defeated Zant and vanquished Ganondorf, the Twilight Ream was peaceful once again. Peaceful, but… 'Gee, it sure is boring around here,' Midna sighed, turning away and flopping down onto her bed.
'My princess, this peace is what all true rulers strive for.'
'I just wonder what-' Midna looked up. Over the edge of her bed she could see a pair of brown, furry ears. Sitting up properly she discovered that the ears were attached to a very familiar blue-eyed beast.
'L-Link!' The princess gasped, the one person she was just thinking about was suddenly here, in her room! A million questions rushed through her head: How did get into the Twilight Realm? Why was he here? What had he been doing? Did he miss her? Was something wrong in Hyrule? Was Malo still the most annoying shop keeper ever? Finally, she settled on one question,
'Did you get… hairier?'
'Yeah,' Link replied, scratching behind his ear. 'Think you can fix it?'
Midna shook her head. 'The crystal broke along with the mirror. It can't transform you anymore.' She scooped up the three pieces of the shadow crystal and held them out to show Link. The unique shape of the crystal had been split into three and the magic, once a vibrant orange was now a dark grey.
'Hmm, a broken artefact of the Twili… Now what does that usually mean?' Link thought with a secret smirk. 'Midna, correct me if I'm wrong but I think we have some adventuring to do.'
'But, I can't come with you! I have to stay here as the princess. I have a responsibility, Link.' Midna protested, but she and Link both knew she didn't really mean it.
'And I have a responsibility as the Hero of Hyrule, so let's go!' Link's grabbed Midna's skirt in his mouth and pulled her towards the door.
Zelda was worried; almost three hours had passed since Link had entered the Twilight Realm and there was still no sign of him. As she contemplated for the fiftieth time whether or not to go in, the mirror suddenly started glowing and two figures materialised on the steps. One was Link, still in his wolf form, with an adventurous glint in his blue eyes and the other…
'Midna!' Zelda cried, rushing up to greet her friend with a tight hug.
'Zelda,' Midna gasped. 'It's great to see you too, but…I really can't breathe.'
