White Owl tested the restraints that held her firmly to the lab table with all her might, but while the metal clamps were sorely tested by the strain, they held all the same. As her tormentor worked the equipment along the wall, her hands feverishly sought any means of escape within reach and the heroine reflected on what had brought her to this dire turn of events.

It was three hours ago and the late winter sun had just settled behind the horizon of well-preserved buildings that make up the Queen City Business District. At the Queen City Museum, Doctor Athena Nikos finished her day in the office, but instead of heading home, she slipped off to the roof unnoticed. It may have been the good doctor who went to the roof, but a few minutes later it was the city’s favorite daughter, White Owl, who flew off that roof. The heroine didn’t have far to go when she saw the flashing blue light on the First National Bank Building and realized that the silent alarm had been set off!

The heroine was careful as she sped to the bank’s main entrance. The alarm couldn’t have been activated more than 5 minutes ago or she would have at least seen police cars speeding to the scene of the crime. That meant that the criminals quite likely would still be on site and one misstep could not only endanger her, but any innocent civilians in harm’s way. While it was only a few minutes after normal banking hours, usually the front door would be locked by now and require a guard to open for the last few customers to leave after their transactions, but not today. Today the door was wide open. Of course, the guard lying on the floor was a dead giveaway to any perspective customer to come back another day, but the goofy look on his face was particularly unnerving. Athena quickly checked the man’s pulse to make sure he was OK before she cautiously stepped over him to enter the bank.

The lobby was filled with patrons and employees in similar condition to the poor guard. White Owl surveyed the interior carefully as she moved toward the vault. She had used this bank for museum business in the past and knew many of the employees. It was no surprise to see a grey haired man in a slate grey business suit lying face down on the ground by the vault. His full head of salt and pepper hair identified him as Mr. Levin, the branch manager. The criminal would have needed him to get into the now open vault. As the heroine bent over to see if the manager was OK, she heard her opponent singing to himself in the vault. If the ludicrous looks on the victims faces or the fact the criminal was singing ‘Afternoon Delight’ with horribly incorrect lyrics were not enough clues, his voice removed all doubt. White Owls fists balled up in anticipation as she thought ‘Stupid Guy!’

The heroine prepared for a lightning fast strike. She had to be sure she took him out quick in case the miscreant had his Stupid Gun handy. She wouldn’t risk falling for that trick. With all the speed she could muster, White Owl targeted the source of the singing and charged around the corner into the vault but she was surprised at what she found. There on the vault floor was Mr. Levin stripped to his underwear. Before she could react she felt the stinging energy of the Stupid Ray find its mark on her back. Athena turned to see her attacker as Guy rose from the floor. One hand had his Stupid Ray, the other had the wig he had just taken off. The crafty felon smiled evilly as he gloated “Gotchya!” That was all the heroine could remember before the Stupid Ray wiped every thought from her head.
