I finally made a robot head design I'm happy with!

I had a few challenges, because I wanted to have screen eye(s), and also a somewhat functional mouth for eating and drinking, and I wanted them to look expressive enough. The lack of eyebrows and deforming skin and mouth limit the range of expressions a bit, but I compensated a little bit for that with more expressive eyes, custom animated icons and symbols in the place of the eye (Zzz, !, ?, ^...etc), and ear antennae that can move up and down depending on the expression type, kind of like dog ears perk up when they're excited, or go down when they're angry or threatened.

The design also had to be futuristic/advanced enough, but still fit in with the vibes of alternative, more advanced 1980s. The term for that is technically "retro-futuristic", but this doesn't look much like the dominant style I encountered. I had more inspiration from bike helmets and a few classic cars like the Pontiac GTO and Cadillac Eldorado than other robot designs from games or movies.

I also made some test static expressions www.deviantart.com/stash/06s75… . These will look much better with animations and dialog in the future.

It's still an untextured highpoly model at the moment. I won't add detail or make it game-optimized until I finish the rest of the body.
