Description
Milo Thatch from Disney's "Atlantis - The lost empire"I started out drawing the cartoon-ish version, but found that some of the Milo-ness was lost with the stylechange, so I decided to try and draw him in the original Disney-style instead.
I tried not using reference unless it was absolutely necessary.

The voice of Michael J Fox has forever been engraved in my brain as Milo Thatch. That was a wonderful movie, I've seen it many times and now my DVD won't work anymore and I am full of sadness.

Aww thank you so much :''}
Well, using too much reference would keep me from learning :'0 So.

on the contrary :0 references is what help you learn, in order to progress you must try to reproduce as many things as possible so your hand can get used to the shape and feel.of course while reproducing these you can make countless changes
even the greatest artists use models, objects and animators inspire their designs from other styles and so on, it's a continuous learning process from artist to artist : D
at the beginning i also thought that referencing will keep me away from learning until many drawing teachers and artists pointed out that referencing isn't like tracing so don't worry :')

Aah, you're right, saying that it keeps me from learning was a very wrong way to put it, I wasn't specific enough. What I meant was that with this picture, I tried to look at a lot of pictures of Milo, and then draw him without looking back on them. To test my memorizing skills. And that wouldn't work if I'd kept using reference during the whole process, hence, it'd keep me from getting the result I wanted/keep me from training my memory/learning. Thanks for pointing all this out, though, it's pearls of wisdom : D

ooh hahah, i know what you mean, i never remember how to draw the characteristics of a character even after i have watched a whole series in one go, i always forget certain things and have to check back on pictures an such
it's strange that the characters from the Atlantis movie seem to a have a more different design from all the other Disney movies :0

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I like that film. It's different from other Disney-works, in a very good way.
The sequel was crap, though. lol

Well, I watched it once, but I've forgotten almost everything about it..The only thing I remember is that it was horrible. I guess my brain just deleted it from my memory because it was so bad, haha
