Description Hey guys, unfortunately I can't post any of my current work due to NDA restrictions. Instead I decided to post a recent speed painting I did as a study of Jeremy Vickery's work.

I'm a huge fan of and have been itching to re-evaluate my artistic style and make some serious changes for the better. In particular I'm trying to ditch the heavy texture usage I have come to rely on when deadlines are looming as I feel it makes work look a little too flat and uninspired, and instead wish to focus more on using brushstrokes to convey texture. Jeremy's work is a fantastic example of this style, and I thought it would be a great experiment to use one of his paintings as a "master study".

I spent around an hour looking closely at his wonderful paintings, and then studied this excellent video tutorial which can be found here: [link] . As you can see I have literally translated the painting; I take no credit for the concept itself.

I think trying to assimilate styles like this can be a really valuable exercise. I certainly picked up some really useful points which I will be applying to my future work.

Please go and look at Jeremy's work, you won't be disappointed: [link]

This is awesome. I wish I knew how to make those brush strokes digitally (maybe it was a program you used).
I love the scene and the cool colours. It makes me think of an undisturbed scene early in the day. Even if it is speed-painted, it still looks great

Thanks man I just used a simple square chalk brush for this, just trying out some new techniques! Glad you like it.
