Description
Another image trying out the Orton Effect. I tried to use a long shutter speed on this one, but given that I had no tripod with me, it was difficult to say the least! I'm quite pleased with how the colours of this one have turned out; but yet another place on my long list of "must revisits"!Curiously, the RAW to JPEG conversion lost a signifcant amount of the colour detail. Whyyyyy and how do I stop this?! I tried uploading as a .tiff (which seems a bit better on my computer) but it's not displaying correctly on DA still.
[link] this is the link to the Orton tutorial I used, but it doesn't seem to be working atm.

The colours are great; and you say the original is better? I can't imagine the colours any better!

I know what you mean about loosing the original colour in the conversion from raw to jpg. I've had a bit of a problem with that too.
I just had a look around the net and a bit of an experiment and it looks like the Color Space is to blame. If you've got you're 400D set to sRGB and you set Photoshop to convert the RAW to Adobe RGB (when you open the RAW directly in PS) you'll loose a lot of colour when you save as jpg - maybe even before that. So I think as long as you shoot in sRGB and set photoshop to sRGB or both to Adobe RGB, you should be right. But try it and see, I might be wrong. If I am, I'd love to hear what you come up with!
Hope it helps
And fantastic effect by the way! I'm going to have to try that one.

Thanks so much, that's really helpful! I shall have a look in the settings and see if I can find a solution along those lines. Oh and thanks too!

Thanks! The colours are okay, they just have a little extra added "oomph" in the original.

Abi,
very nice shot!
I faced color problems when I started to use another RAW convertor. Did you check if you use sRGB color space when converting to JPEG? DA uses sRGB but some convertors use AdobeRGB as default, which may cause a color shift.

Lol, I'm such a dunce! I thought what you'd written was your signature Don't ask! Yes, definitely useful, thank you! Had a few people mention sRGB/AdobeRGB to be, so I think it could be that. I don't full understand what all that means yet, but I'm going to have a play and see what happens
Apologies again for being rubbish at reading comments!
