In your opinion, how do you think a WAR between the Galkgrost and the Triphon would go down?

Galkgrost are more organized and efficient. I think they would win

Cool, but how humiliating for the Triphon! Ferocious beasts defeated by worm-like creatures. But hey, I guess looks aren't everything!

I thoroughly love the slopes. Especially on the sides. There's only a few surfaces that are actually flat and thus vulnerable. A very well-thought out design.

Quarkster [2014-09-24 21:59:30 +0000 UTC]

Does the gun's center of mass move to adjust elevation in the turret?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to Quarkster [2014-09-25 14:24:34 +0000 UTC]

Nope, it elevates purely vertically.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Quarkster In reply to Abiogenisis [2014-09-30 16:02:30 +0000 UTC]

But with a pivot point very near the end of the barrel? Or does the armor around the gun move? And you're saying there's no gun depression?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to Quarkster [2014-10-01 20:52:10 +0000 UTC]

The armor around the gun is what moves, taking the gun with it. It can depress, but not as far as a human tank with its front mounted cannon.

ArrakisPrime [2014-08-10 16:19:10 +0000 UTC]

The tank is a great concept. Low profile, shallow front angles, side armor, secondary armament, it's all there.
The armor around the main gun is a little over the top, but hey, why not?

The only big question I have is: How does a species without appendages build, much less drive, *anything*?

Ah, the head actually splits into multiple tentacles, so that gives them their 'limbs'.

What is that serpentine shape near the side? Is it a model?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to CrwnPrince [2014-06-10 19:07:20 +0000 UTC]

Not a model, a design for an alien land tank. That serpent is the pilot

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CrwnPrince In reply to Abiogenisis [2014-06-10 19:35:14 +0000 UTC]

If thats so then why are there tread? Wouldn't the wheels be similare to the way that they walk.. Some type of beveled slithery single base wheel? Basically using the same mechanics as they do.
Not downing it, but that just kinda caught me off guard.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to CrwnPrince [2014-06-15 09:18:25 +0000 UTC]

An interesting point!

Problem is, with a slithering wheel, large numbers of joints may be needed and every complication would be a possible failure point. It is certainly worth thinking about though...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CrwnPrince In reply to Abiogenisis [2014-06-15 21:09:04 +0000 UTC]

Your are looking at it from a humancentric point of view. I once had someone explain that in the comic world everything is base 8, as opposed to our world being base 10. Why? Because they have 3 fingers and a thumb. Where as we have 4 fingers and a thumb.
So everything theirs... measurements, mathamatics... everything is base 8.

Now you have a race that slithers. They don't design in the same manner. don't see the same problems.. or instead in the way we do. straight lines would take a back seat to serpentine designs... What we see as a problem they might even see it.
And our solutions would be backwards to them. So maybe a slithering track would not be seen as a major problem, but our straight rolling treads might seem odd or wrong to them.
Their tactics would not be direct or straight... but indirect, circular. Heck they may worship gods as muti-angeled ones?? IJS

ArtOfAnrach In reply to CrwnPrince [2014-07-28 04:03:50 +0000 UTC]

I have to disagree with you regarding the tank treads. While I do think the tank looks a little too much like a human design, this is a piece of military hardware and any species, regardless of their psychological viewpoint, is going to want military hardware to have the most effective and cost efficient design possible. Humans are bipeds, but you don't see us building tanks that walk around on two legs. The tread provides the best possible efficiency in the widest range of environments for the lowest cost. And some things are always going to take a back seat to reason: a slithering tread would be such a convoluted design that nobody, even a race that slithers as their natural form of locomotion, would pursue such a design as a serious form of transportation. Sometimes problems can have different solutions that are just as effective, but other times there is in fact a single, objectively best solution. For instance the best way to move a heavy object is to roll it, either by rolling the object itself or by using some other form of rolling such as affixing wheels to it or pushing it across a series of logs. There are, of course, a myriad of ways to move a heavy object, but any rational mind, human or otherwise, will know that rolling is the best way. It's not a matter of psychology, but logic.

CrwnPrince In reply to ArtOfAnrach [2014-07-28 13:56:11 +0000 UTC]

Good points but even using that viewpoint if their perception isn't straight forward they wouldn't look at problems in the same manner. Which would lead to different solutions.
