EDIT: Oct. 19th, 2012 - I made the face more proportionate to the head size. It looked too small to me before.
This is the detailed icon prize for ~Fenrixion . It's her cute little fox character, Felli.
Man, this one was actually pretty difficult for me. Felli normally has a super-simple design (see the bottom icon: [link] and here: [link] ) so I had a really hard time translating her design over to my more realistic style. In the end, I made her into a chibi fox with a bulldog/pug body. I still tried to keep her round face and tiny mouth in the final design, though.

Whoa, at first I wasn't sure what you meant by a simple design that you had a hard time translating, I thought you were just talking about markings etc, and then I saw the original character and I see just what you mean! You did a really great job with it!

Haha, yeah. I can handle cartoony, anime and generally simplified characters to an extent, but I do have a hard time with them when they're really simple. I have nothing against simplified characters (I think they can be pretty cool!) it's just that they're too different from my usual style for me. >.>

Oh, uh, I used some cloud photos for reference and painted the shapes that I saw. I changed them around a lot so that they would match the picture, though. My technique is pretty similar to this, actually: [link]
