Description
Watchers Giveaway Prize - 6/6Woooo finally finished. This picture took me forever.
Anyway, this is the last Watchers Giveaway Prize for the wonderful Shadow-Wolf . It's her Alecani character, Nym, fighting a dragon. Now, dragons aren't normally evil in Eski's Tea Feathers story, but this one is infected with the deadly night spire fungus, which takes control of its host and turns it into a murderous zombie before killing it. The fungus likes to target dragons and other flying creatures to help better spread its spores. The only way to stop the fungus is to kill the infected hosts before the spores are released. The dragon here has a whole heap of spores just waiting to be let free. *pokes orange boils*
Eski has been helping me out a bunch the last year or so, so I tried my damnedest on this piece for her. I'm not too experienced with landscapes but at least I learned a lot while I was working on this! I'd really like to do more landscape pictures in the future.
I hope you like it!

Nice art style in my opinion, though a suggestion for that character with the bow.
Use a .50 cal next time, just saying.Β

Magnificent! Also, a good example of what happens when one neglects scaly skin care.

I have started and deleted this comment three times over trying to figure out the right thing to say.Β But basically it boils down to SHIT YES THIS IS AMAZING OH GOD THANK YOU!!!Β Your environment textures are stellar, and your dedications to each and every piece you create is so overwhelmingly inspiring.Β You worked SO HARD and it came out SO GOOD as a result of your skills and hard work.Β Wow, Nym looks so fantastic!Β This is the very first picture of her fighting a creature infected by the Night Spores, and it's immensely telling of her story, and what is in my head for her world.Β Freaking brilliant, I can't thank you enough.Β You're amazing!Β

Whenever someone leaves me an awesome comment like this, I never quite know how to respond. I'm just so happy that you like it so much. You're such a cool artist and you're so nice too. ;~;
I wanted to finish this by your birthday, but I was late, late, laaaate. *wears cowl of shame* Hopefully it wasn't too late for it to still be considered a birthday present? If so, Happy Late Birthday, Eski! I only missed it by a weekish. XD
But yes, I totally want to see what happens in Tea Feathers. I always love seeing stories where the characters are fighting against the world (or some other malevolent force) instead of fighting against some random evil guy. Why? Well, you can reason with some random evil guy but you can't reason with something like the plague. It's a much more compelling story type because we get to see how different characters deal with it. With good versus evil stories, everyone is either a good guy, a bad guy, or a random NPC running around in the background.Β

So awesome! I LOVE the pose on Nym and the way she's holding the bow so accurately. The dragon looks so scary! Wonderful job!

Thank you! I'm no expert on archery, so it's nice to hear that she's holding the bow correctly. I was a little worried about it.

Wow, wow wow! This really looks amazing. You nailed that facial expression, and the tension in Nym's body! Weirdly, the only thing that's really bothering me is the grass. I know that its not uber detailed to give focus on the characters, Β but I guess that my issue is that it looks exactly the same in terms of stroke length, and detail both in front of Nym, and quite a bit behind them. Β There also doesn't seem to be any grass at all under the dragons wing. It kind of feels like I'm just nitpicking, but it did draw my attention. I blame the rest of your piece being just so absolutely mind blowing.Β

Thank you very much!
Yeah, grass is one of those things that hate me. I don't know why, but I always have trouble with it. But thanks for your crit! I went in and smoothed out the grass some more. Does it look better now?
I also added a blur to the dragon because he isn't the main focus. I'm not sure how -I- feel about it, but everyone I showed it to preferred him with the blur so... /shrug

Awesome - this scene couldnΒ΄t be more dramatic I really like how you painted the dragonΒ΄s scales and NymΒ΄s feathers. Oh, and the little "story"! It somehow gives more life to the picture

Cordyceps that can infect dragons?
That's one of the more terrifying concepts I've heard in my life.Β
Not that I don't think Nym can take care of them. Her face is INTENSE.
π: 0 β©: 1
aboveClouds In reply to julianwilbury [2014-02-19 03:03:20 +0000 UTC]
It totally is. I mean, the concept of zombie insects is scary enough, but zombie dragons? Nononononononononooooo. We just have to hope that Cordyceps doesn't mutate in the future so that it can work on humans and other mammals. Now that would be scary. D:
