Forming the team was surprisingly tricky. It’s important to choose the right partners: who is running next to whom and in which order? This is not only a question of the step length but also of the personality of each stallion.

You might think that it cannot be too hard to coordinate four full grown men in masks to pull a carriage. However you must keep in mind that with the mask each one of us has created a character and the according personality. If asked a puppeteer could easily explain to you that each of his puppets has a character of themselves and that they usually behave in a certain kind of manner. It’s very much the same for us wearing the horse masks.

And then there are the masks: they are narrowing down the field of vision dramatically. I was unable to see what the partner at my side was doing, when facing straight ahead. So we would often bump into each other’s shoulders, just to feel where the partner was going.

The Photos you see here are from Saturday. But it was on Sunday when we finally found the perfect set: Norica left and Aragon right, directly in front of the carriage, and Abraxas left and Nighty right as leading Hexen horses. This way we worked pretty well as a team. And everybody could bring in his personal strengths.

On Abraxas

The myth of witches turning men into animals is at least as old as the tale of Odysseus' journeys, if not older. We discovered Abraxas in the late summer of 2011 when we bought mask and tack from the Fury-Fantasy Workshop . It had always been the dream of my beloved wife Arressia to handle a human pony. Later, while telling each others stories on our long roadtrips, we learned that Abraxas is actually a Hexen-Horse and Arressia is the one to call him out of me. Our life is rich and full of fantasy.
