MEOWWWWW!!!!Another Genesis!!!^_^Because i love him sooo so so much,damn,couldn't think of putting Angeal into this picture!!!So like yeah,i did this in a different way from my usual wartworks,i did paint him completely and then well....added those black things,there's a reason for that!!!You know that fanfic 'Fragile bonds'??!?!There was a part where Genesis goes real upset and tries killing himself so i thought of that part and somehow a very dark image came to this head of mine!!^_^
Originally i was trying to make it look like he's lying down on a bed with black sheets but like...i failed so i thought of trying to make it look like a dark realm kind of thing where he seems to drift off to at times in the fanfiction!!!

It's inspired by that scene from the second Intro, isn't it? (since Gen is not exactly suicidal by default in my story... with that one exception)
I especially love the dark-ish colour scheme - deep red and black - and Gen's expression, since it's almost blank, but with a spark of... well, something else. Both details go very well with the general mood I was trying to create in my story.
Oh, and there a funny coincidence with the title... The second-to-last part of said story will be called "Redemption", too.

Since we talked about red and black in the drawing, I wanted to quote a few lines from a song of the musical Les Miserables (thinking you might like them. You can change the 'she' to 'he', if you want):
Red - I feel my soul on fire
Black - my world if she's not there
Red - the colour of desire
Black - the colour of despair

Though so. Yeah, that 'rescue part' was kinda inspired by the Nickelback song "Savin' Me".
According the the creators of FFVII, redemption is what actually happens (they say the bonus scene at the end of Dirge of Cerberus is supposed to be interpreted in that way).
Well, I'm not really an artist, but sometimes art and literature are really close (and when you study literature, you learn to pay attention to details). Besides, you did those details extemely well, so one can't help but notice.
Oh, I actually have a scene in Fragile Bonds (it's another vivid dream Gen has) that features an image (or metaphor, in that case) usually used in art.

He stood right under one of the most beautiful and tallest tree he had ever seen, and mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the moment, he held out his hands to capture those tiny petals that came floating down like feathers. But as soon as the flowers touched his palms, something happened. Losing their shape, they melted down and changed their colour. What was dripping from his hands now looked like blood…

Scenes like that..*sigh*,you can almost feel them just reading them!!!Yeah,literature's fun,i studied it for a while,not in higher studies though but there was something about it,the way you had to see things which other people don't,always bringing out different meanings depending on one's view...*smiles*!!!
Oh and those red,black ones..thanks for quoting them!!heeheh!!!Right now,his sould doesn't seem much on fire but yeah,the black descrptions really suit this nicely!!!

Well, that's exactly why love literature. You can see different things in it, depending on your perspective and how close you look. In most science subjects, there is just one result, one solution. This is intriguing too, of course, but I personally prefer ambiguity. Or having different levels.
If you wanted to interpret the simply dream scene I showed you, you might be surprised to find out that there are actually three levels of meaning, one literal and two more metaphorical ones. It's pretty complex for such a seemingly simple scene.
The red and black just reminded me of the colour scheme you used in the picture... And you are right, the 'black parts' are more suiting at the moment being (remember that pretty early chapter of Fragile Bonds - I think it was II-1 - where Gen talks about the meaning/symbolism of the colour red? I'm more than just 'the colour of desire' for him...). Although you could make the 'soul on fire' part fit (since it's literature, you can bend it a bit...). If something is on fire, it usually gets consumed in the process. And the loss of one's soul is supposed to result in madness and/or total devastation.
