When I was a kid, mountainsandthesea and I were obsessed with Don Bluth's animated scifi film, Titan A.E. Akima was my first encounter with a gun-wielding, badass space pilot, and she obviously left an impression.We watched the film again recently, and we were like...what IS this dialogue?? But I don't care. I still love the movie. And I love the books even more (especially the prequels. Qu'ut Minor, anyone?).
Enjoy the first installment of the Obscure/Underloved/Atypical Fandoms Series - which will feature characters that I've never drawn before and who come from fandoms that are lesser-known or unpopular here on dA.

Yeah. 2 prequels ("Akima's Story" and "Cale's Story" by Rebecca Moesta/Kevin J. Anderson) and one movie novelization ("Titan A.E" by Steve and Dal Perry). Of these I'd say Cale's Story is the best...the movie novelization is interesting in that it includes chapters from the perspective of the Drej, but it was clearly rushed to print because it has numerous typos.
