She slips under the waves. The ocean is… somewhat familiar to her. The sunlight comes down in giant shafts and turns the waters lukewarm. Further out from the shore, a small school of fish swims by, and, in a bit of a mischievous manner, she nudges the water to spin them around once in a circle. Confused and disoriented, they dart away quickly.
A turtle swims by, while an eel pokes its head out from behind a rock. The colors underwater are surprisingly vibrant. It’s pleasant here, soothing, and mundane.
As she dives deeper under the water’s surface, the light becomes faint. Much of what she sees is murky, blurred. The stone hovered carefully over her head guides her though… leading to a series of tall, rock formations. The air— water — around the rocks is blistering, and clouds of smoke swirl out of the tall columns to envelop the area in a white haze.
A dull gleam catches her eyes and she swims closer to investigate.
Nestled in a small crevice, it’s the off-white of bone, dark from age— a tooth of some sort, although just the tip, likely broken off some larger whole, as evidenced by the uneven edges on one side. The way the stone led her to find the tooth feels too deliberate to be a coincidence. And something too, is tugging at her, letting her know she should pick up the tooth.
Perhaps this was her goal?
No… there’s something more, she feels it— She carefully lowers the stone and picks up the tooth instead, resolving to figure out what.
