Description Day Nineteen

A secondary request I agreed to do for 's character Furvus Wolf. He kinda looks more like DJ O.o that aside I'm glad I can do something like this. I had to use two references for each hand so naturally there is something different about it. However it's pretty unique in that respect.

I think I can start seeing myself doing Anthro art

I won't deny you have a point. I had hoped that I could get away w using maybe one or two references at the time I drew this but I see it wasn't enough. And yes it was rushed considering I was cramming to finish as I was doing an iron artist challenge. Maybe I should recreate the piece see if I can get an improvement

I see, I normally don't do these iron artist challenges as it usually take me more than a few weeks to finish one piece, but I'd rather have spent nearly a month trying to create a really good looking piece of work than rushing to finish a piece off and have it look very poor in quality (that's just my opinion though)

If you want to recreate it then by all means, the important thing is to take your time with it and be patient, I'm still a developing artist myself and even if I draw the same thing over and over again, I still think I might end up making it look rubbish.

All I can say is if you want references of Furvus look at pics of Furvus but you can still use Demi's art as a reference to how muscles look and appear on the body.

i've done it a few times and it really helped for where i was at, giving me the time and experience to improve over the course of a few months. However now I'm more focused on trying to improve the quality of my work so it might be a while before i do something like it again.

I can understand what you mean worrying about whether the quality will be good or not. Thats part of the reason i haven't done muscle anthro art in a while. But i think i'm going to change that. lol and yes i probably will do that. I think using Demi's work as a reference is a good idea howver he is someone who has thoroughly practiced and understood muscle anatomy thoroughly, something i lack at the momet. In previous experienec i've found my work tends to look flat and lack definition he has when i tried to imitate his work. As far as I know I do have some vague idea of how to approach redrawing Furvus but it might take some time and some practice. of course i'll be sure to upload it when i get it down

That is true, he's spent years practising and learning the muscle anatomy inside and out and I'm pretty damn certain he's still learning as am I and as are you.

I'm only just getting a basic grasp of anatomy in my artwork and it's starting to show (if you fancy taking a look at my gallery )

And to be honest for a while I stopped drawing musclefur art to make 3D model pictures but I went back to drawing because I really wanted to improve.

I've always been told that the fun in art is to be able to see how much you've improved over time and how well you can draw from learning from mistakes.

for someone that proficient its hard to imagine him needing improvement. however a good artist always tries to improve so I will give you that.  I've more or less gotten the gist of the anatomy regarding proportion of the body and limbs as well as poses to an extent however muscle structure and definition and the way to make it realistic is still a ways for me. and yeah you're right I've seen myself improve a lot and it always makes me feel satisfied with what i've accomplished

Well think about it this way, a martial artist, even if he becomes a master of his fighting style, he'll still want to train and practice so that he doesn't become rusty and he might also learn something else that he has never heard of before.

It applies to all of us regardless of skill level.

i definitely know what you mean by that. though i wouldn't call myself a master XD and yeah you're right that mindset does apply to all of us

Same here, I'm not a master either, but i'm in no rush to get to that level.

This is very nice and you are indeed improving with your artwork I do see the DJ look to this, but it's cool as the two are close friends and Furvus takes it as a compliment Thanks for doing this

thank you I really appreciate that comment. and I'm glad to see that my little touch up turned into a compliment. I like how I'm getting better at drawing people. or anthros at least

AceOfKeys72 In reply to H-StallionWolf [2012-11-11 17:23:07 +0000 UTC]

probably because i rushed it. the funny thing is I did use DJ for a quick reference but the most I used was getting under his chin. the rest I was using Furvus for. freaky

apparently. i suppose i made his snout too small since foxes have smaller snouts compared to wolves however MMF said he took the appearance as a compliment since furvus and dj are good friends

H-StallionWolf In reply to AceOfKeys72 [2012-11-13 22:53:18 +0000 UTC]

now that you think about it it is to small. looks more like a cat snout rather than a fox.

hmmm good point. well i could always redo it. I mean I'm really getting the knack for drawing anatomy. granted its not to scale but its becoming better

H-StallionWolf In reply to AceOfKeys72 [2012-11-18 10:15:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah, to take notes, draw the pose in stick figures on top of the ref and make it agin in a clean sheet, it's what i do

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AceOfKeys72 In reply to H-StallionWolf [2012-11-19 06:44:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah that seems like a smart idea to use. references are important because you can build on it and improve yourself

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

H-StallionWolf In reply to AceOfKeys72 [2012-11-19 08:53:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah. i find the pose i need, i draw the stick figure over it then draw it again on a sheet. it's how i capture the pose without copying

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AceOfKeys72 In reply to H-StallionWolf [2012-11-21 06:11:35 +0000 UTC]

it sounds very similar to my style too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

H-StallionWolf In reply to AceOfKeys72 [2012-11-21 07:48:42 +0000 UTC]

then how do you do it then? .w.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AceOfKeys72 In reply to H-StallionWolf [2012-11-21 08:25:14 +0000 UTC]

I start with a line of action to determine the flow of the pose, draw a line indicating where the shoulders will be. from there i draw three circles, one for the head, the second for the torso and the third the hips. from there i build on the body little by little

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

H-StallionWolf In reply to AceOfKeys72 [2012-11-21 12:36:52 +0000 UTC]

well after i copy the pose i make a stick figure: spheres for the head, shouders, elbows, knees and thies. the torso i made a irrregular volumed piece on the chest and other forms for hands and feet. all connected by sticks.

for the tail i draw a line
