i can't really say much on this other than .. its just amazing.. i love seeing artists who aren't affraid of using blacks and dark shadows.. the fish around her neck.. wow. seriously wow.. sharp edged details. great depth in her eyes.. only really thing is.. with the way you've lit the rest of the body the right side of her face probably didnt have to be completely blacked out. having the hints at details maybe a little shading around a cheek.. the flick of light on an eye.. just enough to say its still there.. probably would have been a touch better. but how you handeled it was still beautifully done

Thanks a lot. In my reference picture the right side of her face was completely black, however, it also didn't have the back lighting. My art teacher also mentioned that there should be some light on the right side of her face. I will probably update this one with the added details.

yea the backlighting didnt match up with the foreground.. so you can either bleed out the background.. but then the piece would seem dark and cold and less 'under the water magical'.. tough line to walk when your reference is blacked out like that tho.. you did good with what you had :-D

Oh wow, that is just stunning. I love the necklace of fish and the other necklace that is the ball of light. The dark colors are what drew me to this piece the most though.

Your painting style has a very 3 dimensional quality to it. At first glace the painting seems like a rendering. It's a very interesting effect.
As for a critique, I would leave just a small trace of her face that is in the shadow. Not a lot, just a little bit. The way it is now it just seems to cut off. However this is an artist preference and it's really up to you.

he was the oldest fisherman, that lived beside the bay,
90 years he had sat this spot,through wind and driving rain,
he would stare out at the ocean and tears would sting his eyes,
he'd blame it on the salty spray but that would be a lie,
he crys because he loved her, that beauty of the deep,
he sobs because he should have given up his heart for her to keep,
he'd seen her only breifly when the ship he sailed went down,
the waters were far from kind that day, and he was all but drowned,
her name was marriana and she offered him a deal,
a life on land forever, or a death, right now ,for real,
and to this day his misery is etched upon his face,
he should have stayed in the brine, till the end of time ,gone without a trace.

did you mean to give her no eye lashes? curious. and i can see nothing much to even point out that needs improvement, maybe adding a highlight, or darker shades to the hair and have it stand out as hair more.... but really this is wonderful!!
