Description
After about a year of neglect of this project of mine, i bring you a new piece from my ACEO fairytale collection, the Wild Swans. Actually i had drawn both this and Scheherazade (of the One Thousand and One Nights) many months ago but when i got to add colour i found out the paper had developed some sort of mould or gathered dust (anyone have any advice/knowledge to share regarding that?) and both paintings were ruined. It put me off from drawing them all over again until today. On a side note, i enjoyed researching Scandinavian folk costumes so much that i think i'll take a break from the German/French fairytales and do a few Nordic/Russian etc next. Any suggestions?
Pencil, watercolours, white gouache / 6,4 x 8,9 cm (2.5" x 3.5")

You should do one about Baba Yaga! There's one with her and Vasilisa the Brave, though not every version calls Vasilisa by name. Though any Baba Yaga tale would do.

One of my favourite fairy tales is this Russian one, where -- in a nice inversion of the standard -- a woman tells her husband to never open a certain room in her castle. The idiot does so anyways, and Koschei escapes and kidnaps the lady. The guy then has to try and rescue her with help from his bird brothers-in-law and a horse who ends up actually being a human.
...Did that make sense to anyone? I don't remember what it was called.

Beautiful, as always! You really have mastered watercolors! I love her hands, they look like they might have been a little difficult to draw (at least they would have for me).
Perhaps you could do the Snow Queen? I think that might work.

Thank you for your compliment! I love the fairytale of the Snow Queen, though i already have a piece of her in my gallery so it might be from Gerda's point of view this time. Thanks for your suggestion!

Do you know the Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen? He wrote, among other things, the story called The Little Match Girl. Could you think you may illustrate it?

Well, the Wild Swans are also his so yes, i know him alright. I've already done his Little Mermaid and the Princess and the Pea too. He's one of my favourites so if i manage to keep this series going for a long time i'd like to do many more of his fairytales.
