So very stark and dark a series. The twisted tendrils of the twigs in their twilight strike me as the remnant of a crown made of the grape vine, so reminiscent of a crown of thorns. Perhaps the high office headdress of the Lady when she and a false front lover partook of the days of wine and roses together. Now the grapes seem to be all gone, the fragrance of the flowers has left their noses. Has such a sense of a sombre pay off to a bet that the Lady had once made to herself. That if things that she thought to be true were not at all what they seemed, she would eat her hat.
