Story:
Sometimes a meeting changes you. Anna had been at Ackerley Equine Center for quite some time. She had begun doing pony show jumping, then dressage. All in all she was quiet and short. When turning 17 she was still a perfect rider for pony. All her friends had grown and she had gotten shy. Over the summer she got home and decided to take a break from the horses. It fitted into her schedule and her parents thought that one last free summer would be nice, since they all knew she had a careerer in riding in front of her and it wouldn't bring long vacations.
It was one day over the summer that she was out to walk the dog. She walked passed a neighbouring stable and in a paddock stood a beautiful dark horse with a lovely blaze. When she got home and asked her parents they said the stable was called Silver Sparrow Racing. Anna didn't think much about it, but got more and more interested in taking the dogs out to see the horse. As the first month of summer passed she was spending more and more time sitting outside the paddock and talking to the horse than she spent at home. Some would call her lonely, but she just preferred it.
What happened was that she got caught by the stables owners, who thought she was a perquliar girl, sitting and talking to their nervous, hot headed, mischiveous and grumpy young horse. But they weren't stupid, and quickly got her to agree on riding him. For Anna riding Catan was pure joy. She hadn't really felt what she was missing when she only rode for others. Catan she only rode for herself. He was quickly ready to compete and she went with him to competitions as a groom. The summer was filled with races and she got into the harsh and dangerous lifestyle of the jockeys. Somehow her shyness melted away, with much help from the fact that many eyebrows were raised when she said she gladly sat on Catan, the horse had quite the reputation. But she only saw that as part of his charm. As summer began to get cold and tired she saw the new grooms settling into gear and some idolized her. That was a new roll for her, and much of her skills as a rider were earned from being a competent show jumping and dressage rider. She was good with horses, exceptionally so for her age. She had great balance and a good connection. No one handled Catan with as much love as her. But she had to leave for school. However, that didn't stop her as she had decided to continue coming home each weekend to groom Catar and help with everything she could. By January she was offered to take a competitions license, so she would be able to compete.
Somewhere that stable had thought that maybe Catar would be a better racer under Anna, because he was no star. He was not bad either so they kept him going and Anna got her Jockey license on Catar. That summer her parents forced her to work with ponies and horses of her own, and she could only ride Catar during her spare time. But when going back to school the horses she had for selling or training were either sold or ready to return, so by not taking on so much extra work at school she was back to helping with Catar during the weekends.
Then came the offer. Catars usual jockey couldn't compete him, after a fall, and she was offered to ride in his stead. She didn't know what to say. Somehow she was afraid that if she did bad competing him in the Glassvile's Annual Ice Race they would pick someone to groom him that had more time. She got very nervous and almost fell back to her shy old self. But after spending the evening in Catars box and talking to him, she had decided that if this brave horse who competed and went around the world would do so without complaining, she would be brave to. She started by going to the hairdresser and coloring all her hair blue. Then she put in a few dreads. Her parents would be shocked! You couldn't expect to win much in dressage with bright blue hair taking all the focus. But she didn't care. Then she called school and told them she would be away for a week. Her friends were also called, they would take care of her horses work shifts at school.
That week she trained with Catan every day. She usually didn't get to train him often, and very seldom was her training continuous, but she felt like they grew as a team anyway. Then it was off to the competition.
And Anna rode for all she was worth.

Thank you!
