Description A tale from the Brazilian folklore. My intention in fact was to put the title "The Jabuti*, the Jaguar and the Monkey", but it became too long to fit.

The jabuti was quite hungry but hadn't found anything to eat, not even a piece of fruit, until then. But he saw a monkey up a big mango-tree and thought:
"Good! The monkey is up there. I'll ask him for his help!!"
He approached the tree and called him out:
"Hello, my friend monkey! Would you mind throwing me some mangoes downwards here?"
The monkey was in the mood for playing a trick on someone and realized that was a perfect timing. So he climbed down along the trunk and replied:
"I'll do it even better, Mr. Jabuti. I'll bring you upwards and we'll have the best ones together!"
So he did it, and after putting the jabuti gently onto a high branch he said:
"Just wait a minute here while I choose the mangoes; I'll be back soon, alright?"
The jabuti waited patiently, but much time passed by and the monkey hadn't returned yet.
"I think that guy is poking fun at me", he mumbled. "I've already been here for a long time and he didn't come back until now!"
But how to get off the tree?

Part 02:

Watercolor and ink, 2000.

*Jabuti - that's the way Brazilian Indians used to call the tortoise, so this name got incorporated to our language. This animal appears in many tales as someone very clever and, despite being small and slow, always defeating bigger and stronger ones such as the jaguar and the alligator. In other ones he gets to deceive even the fox and the monkey, said to be the smartest among the other animals.

Beautiful watercolours here, and that monkey's expression just spells trouble. Nice story to go with it too.

Aw, it certainly fits the bill. When I first saw this, it looked like it came right out of a kid's fable book! Excellent job, pal!
