This is a secret santa gift for Phantom (~garagebutterfly ) on NSHC-studio.net. It's a 1280X800 wallpaper.
It's a play on her name, as there's a "phantom" horse in the image if you look for it. The painting kind of evolved as I worked on it, and ended up portraying the bittersweet feeling of sensing the presence of a loved one who has died. Josh Groban sings a song that fits this theme perfectly; "To Where You Are".
This is an accomplishment for me as the entire thing (besides the text) is painted with my Wacom in Photoshop, including the background. No photomanipulation whatsoever. A reference was used for the pose of the horse, but the lighting in the reference was way off so I had to improvise and paint it myself. I was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out.

WOW! This caught my attention while browsing and I simply had to come in to take a peek at that amazing horse! Then, after looking at it a bit more and reading your description I discovered the phantom horse and was just blown away! You did an excellent job of blending the phantom in with the landscape and atmosphere of the piece. Exquisite!

I'm glad the phantom was more or less visible. I had to hint and prod my mother to find it so I wasn't sure how readily it could be seen. I'll do another "hidden" picture sometime, because this was great fun!

I think this is by far the best that you've ever done. It's amazing. The only thing is, is that the branch furthest on the left merges with the ground kind of funnily (is that a word?)... I realize it's the phantom horse's hoof, but it still kind of bugs me. -shrug- I dunno. But still. This is just... there aren't words for it.
