During a raid on the Galactic Federation colony K-2L, a young Samus approaches Ridley as he sits on a hill observing his subordinates carrying out the raid. Attempting to befriend him, Ridley is initially gentle toward the child Samus, feeling pity for her. He then attempts to grab her, only to be interrupted by her mother, who he then kills. He leaves her orphaned as he feasts on the human bodies that litter the ruined colony, after Samus' father killed himself sending a self-destructing ship at him. Since that day, Samus sought revenge on Ridley for the death of her parents and the destruction of her colony.
