Description This is a cathedral that I built for my Space Marine army, the Angels of Absolution, a Dark Angels successor chapter.
Worked on it on and off for about 7 months. The structure itself is made out of foamboard. The foundation and the two statues are made out of 2 inch insulation foam. The roof was made from balsa and thin cardboard for the shingles. The model is about 32 inches deep by 22 inches wide and stands about 23 inches tall.
I might add a stained glass window in the front but for the time being it is pretty much finished.

Looks fantastic. I hope you will add more details to its front eventually (there is simply never enough skulls in 40k )

Thank you. I had always thought of going back and adding a couple little things but it isn't likely I'll get around to it. I just finished another piece last week and I'm already dreaming up the next. Unfortunately its only seen the table once, just too big for its own good.

Excellent work. Very impressive especially knowing how time consuming it is to carve insulation foam in the manner necessary to create the statues (also very messy).

Thanks! I'm really not any good at carving but these guys were fairly simple. I was originally going to pass on the statue idea but a friend convinced me to give it a shot and it ended up paying off. I wanted to incorperate something simillar into the peice I'm working on currently but I'm afraid, due to this deadline I've got, I'm going to have to tone down some of the crazy ideas that I've got.

I am impressed how similar you got the two statues to look. I am fairly accomplished at carving foam I would like to think and I think from those examples you should think that about yourself, too. I really like the shape of the whole piece though. It is not like most terrain builders work where the edges of the base could be snapped to some unseen grid. Yours has a natural asymmetry and flow that makes it look much more like a real place than a model. How did you make the statuary swords if I may ask?
This new piece you are talking of is for that charity gaming event? If so, then build it mundane at first and add the craziness afterward. Terrain pieces can always be retrofitted.
I really want to get a new place where I can set up my workshop again. I was building 6 to 10 terrain pieces at the same time and I could have been finishing them in a week had I stuck to it.
I look forward to seeing what you are making in any case.

Thank you for the compliments.
The blades of the swords were each made of two strips of styrene measuring about 1/8 of an inch thick and 1/4 inch wide. I couldn't find anything in the size I wanted so I put the two strips side by side to get the 1/2 inch width. I carved this down with an exacto knife to make the blade. The guards are just some bitz (Off some dark angel sprue I think) And the grip is styrene tube. Probably the easiest thing I did on this whole project!

Yea, this next one is for the event that cbomb is running. Thats good advice. It is, perhaps, a bit hard to take as you could imagine. Theres always that need to make it bigger and better than the last one! I'm sure it'll turn out fine though.

Like you, no project is ever finished but fight the urge, finish the piece in basic form then if you have time you can add to it before the event but at least have it finished in time. Extras can be put on with any time you have left over.

Thanks for the description on the swords. I figurd they might be cut from plasticard or styrene sheet and I recognized the DA icons. Nicely done as well though.

Looks awesome. I have always wanted to make big terrain pieces like this, but I don't have the room to keep them.

Thanks Just wait a little bit. This thing is so big and in the way I have to move it a hundred times a day, maybe I'll end up selling it lol! Actually I don't think I could sell it, not this one anyway. I already have ideas in my head for my next obnoxiously large terrain peice.

Epic, love it! Maybe one day I'll have a set piece like this myself... If GW makes one. Go, go, Planetstrike!

Thank you. Heh, just make something yourself. Easy enough, just takes a bit of time. Some of the planetstrike stuff does look cool though.

cool , I love making terrain. I had built a smaller ruin with a very similar feel that inspired me to make this one. The base for that one was about 14inches by maybe 9 or 10 and I thought "thats cool but it would be better if it was huge!" About half way through this one I vowed never to make anything so big again. Then when I finished it I thought "well now I've got to make the back half of the building". Biggest problem with this one is I gotta move it 100 times a day, its always in the way.
