I have had an interesting and emotional day here, two different people featured me exclusively, another spent all her time featuring a bunch of already famous people and now is too busy to talk to anybody really, sometimes I wonder if people think through what they are trying to accomplish here. My print submissions are still 50/50 and I can't nail down why.... I'm probing Yunas brain for the answer, I'm concerned because I'm ready to work on my better negatives and I want to see if the prints thing can be sorted out by then. Going to watch survivor, bye bye.

Adaera In reply to markramstead [2007-03-02 04:16:32 +0000 UTC]

By 50/50 do you mean that some are still being "rejected" by the submissions pages? I haven't figured that one out yet either, not that I've submitted any prints. For me, I like to get a bit of feedback on ways to improve my shots, but mostly I enjoy the friendships I've made, especially with the people I consider to be in my "inner circle" - those whom I interact with the most. Plus I really enjoy looking at the photos from around the world, and what better place to get my historic places fix than on dA?

markramstead In reply to Adaera [2007-03-02 05:11:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm with you (I hope), I made a friend who I feel has jumped in too deep and will burn out, I know now this occurs regularly here at DA and that is why I don't promote much, I pace myself. Anyway, I feel I'm here for the long haul and I do miss people when they bail out. They are replaced, that's for sure but I guess I will have to get use to it.
Yes some are still rejected and a concise description of just what is acceptable seems to be impossible to explain.

I just took a quick look through the Prints section on the forum, there doesn't seem to be any assistance there at all regarding the issue. The closest I could come is that 300dpi is required, which is really weird, because all of my submissions are 72dpi for deviations, and I don't get the rejection in pink thing about it being the wrong file size. There truly doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to the system at all.

I've belonged to various internet communities over the years, so I'm used to people coming and going and burning out. Doesn't always make it easier when it's someone I've become good friends with, but again, I'm used to it.

I have never got used to losing friends of any kind, as you know I'm pretty "friendly" and I enjoy the whole friends thing. A lot of my friends have moved from the state or married someone who seems adverse to their husbands friends... Another long sad story...

I'm fairly socialable, but perhaps because I've worked in such transitory fields, I don't notice the leaving of friends thing as much. I worked for the RCMP for a few years, and officers were always getting transferred in and out of the detachment. I also worked in the entertainment industry for even more years, and well, that industry is filled with flakes at the best of times. There are, however, many people from both of those fields whom I have maintained contact with. I still have friends around from school, as well as many net friends I've known for over a decade. A good part of my adaptability probably comes from being a Gemini, and while there are some people I wish I could still contact, I have lots of other friends to keep me occupied.

How could you not! Today went much better than yesterday by the way, some redemption came my way and I met some friendly people! I lived in the "dorms" for 6 years when I was in college getting my degree, I mention that because that experience was simular to what is now happening here at DA. Friends pop in and out almost at random, someone can be found to do whatever anytime. I liked it, unlike most people who soon tired of the "punch bowl" loss of privacy. Great long lasting memories came from those times and I'm not sure these virtual DA memories can compete in the long run, but I'm trying to create some anyway. I must say I would have tons of work friends if I enjoyed strip clubs, Nascar, Pro Sports and sordid affairs! I don't and there you have it!

I never had the dorm experience, as I went to college close to home. I did get to have the whole road trip music tours experience though. Somewhat rather insane times. Especially the one road trip that was sponsored by Foster's Beer. 'nough said on that one

I can't stand strip bars, Nascar is boring (although I like the big rig races...once a year, all I can handle lol), the only pro-sport I like is hockey (hey, I'm Canadian, it's inbred), all of the guys at work are happily married - namely because I tend to hire married guys - they're "safe" and tend to work harder when they have a family to support; the dispatcher simply has way too much drama in her life for my taste (and she's not the brightest bulb on the string either, so I find myself biting my tongue an awful lot). Maybe things would be a bit different if I did have a significant other in my life, but that's not something I am capable of, and may never be capable of again, so instead I just have lots of friends; mainly virtual but I have people I can hang out with if I really want to.

Funny thing about the sports, I was an athlete, a star in fact, captains of two different teams, very competitive! But now I can still talk "Trash" about it, but I don't care at all to spend my time following a team, being a fan in other words! When John Elway retired there was no one left that interested me in football.

Never been much of a football fan. Mike is, though - he loves his BC Lions. He used to play football - centre tackle - but his knee was injured in a cheap, illegal play by the other team and that was the end of his football career. He was so depressed for months after that game. It was for the championship, and the other team won by playing dirty and not getting caught. Mike's team was the typical underdog team that no one expected to make it to the finals; it was almost heartbreaking, they only lost by one touchdown, and they played so hard against incredible odds.

markramstead In reply to Adaera [2007-03-03 16:33:54 +0000 UTC]

Sports at his age are incredibly important, and losing in such a way will add to his good character as opposed the the other team's victory which degrades the very nature of competition. Sorry about his knee, I can relate, but all boys who compete will hurt themselves eventually it seems. I usually root for the underdogs myself, hoping they will stick it to the man! I have never seen such exciting football as that which I witnessed and participated in when I was in High School! In fact the best game I saw in all my life was when Gary High beat Clarmont high. Claremont (my school) was us the rich white boys and Gary high was the poor black kids, anyway we had the lead and they had to throw 4 "Holy Mary" passes in a row, the last was caught and scored a touchdown, but they still needed the extra point, the Quaterback was also the kicker and he kicks it for the win. They went nuts, that Quarterback bacame a pro, though his name escapes me now. Hard fought game.

One of Mike's favourite movies is Friday Night Lights (although he hates the t.v. series by the same name). His team played hard all through the season and the rounds leading up to the championship. They deserved to be there, they got there with honest play and hard work. It was heartbreaking to see them lose to a dirty team - but you're right - they knew they were the better team simply for their principles. Mike had a few injuries that were unavoidable simply because of the position he played. The injury to his knees was totally uncalled for, and should never have happened, and it wouldn't have if that other team played the game the way it should be played. Mike's team called him the Steamroller - he was very good at his position; nobody got through to our QB when he was on the field, and he was exceptional at clearing the path to theirs when needed. He had hoped to be able to go to college on a football scholarship, but that's gone now.
