Sometimes it's just how we look at our own art, too. Sketches allow for a lot more improvisation and concept, but once you ink what you sketch, you have to color what you've inked, and if the sketch had a line or a shadow that didn't get brought across in the inking, sometimes it doesn't look as good, or... Oh I hope this makes sense. XD
Other times I will draw something, and an alternate version and ask my boyfriend which is better (a mistake!) BECAUSE he'll insist on one and i'll be thinking the other. It drives me mad XD

Yeah, it makes lots of sense. Even some lines that differs from the sketch may look odd. I think a well done sketch can be good or even better than an inked drawing.
hahaha! Asking for others opinions or advices is too risk. The person may aid you a lot or just do the same as your boyfriend. (or worse, say that you should change the only thing that you though it was good in a drawing! lol)

I think because it's easy to sketch in all of the right thick and thin lines in a sketch, but hard to actually draw them in a single stroke when inking.
