Description This is a small selection of low polyish space ships i have been playing around with. not properly textured but not to bad all in all.

am planning a big scene with these ships, just no good at texturing and mapping

Yeah, texturing and mapping suck (only because I suck at them too).
where did you get the actual texture, though? It's cool.

i followed a tutorial that i found on the interweb it had been sitting on me hard drive for years, it lended itself quite nicely to these models

Ships look great.

I need to learn how to add more details to my ships.

Does your app have a Nurnie/greeble function?
Could use that to add more details.

i haven't really experimented to much in adding details in those ways.

One of my biggest faults at the mo is the lack of detail. but i am slowly getting there

You are further along than I am.

I am still wondering what to add on as an extra detail, its not even a modeling problem. Its more of a mental/style problem.

im always scouring the internet for new tutorials on mapping and texturing. allthough texturing isn't to big of a problem. its the mapping that is a pain in the arse.

UV mapping is so passe, how about wx mapping.
Maybe that will work with abnormal maps.

Yeah, I have to get into UV mapping, what fun.

The last two ships are really cool!

Many thanks.

they are kind of a variation on a theme. i duplicated the wing and rotated them to make it a little more aggressive. its a cheat i know but it was only an experiment at the time.

they're great, but you do realize the first one is a joke compared to the rest of them ^^ ? great work. did you use vray for lighting by any chance, the textures and shadows turned out quite nice.

LOL i know.

the first one is something i am planning on using as a test peice for mapping, so i kept it as simple as possible. due to my complete lack of mapping skills which i have to address.

I used the advanced render module that comes with cinema 4d there is one light set with area shadows and i then used the global illumination set to stockhastic. i use it primarily for clay renders and such but it seems to work quite well at bringing out the textures

U say low poly, well i definatly agree on the first ship . Any way the models are cool, the texturing is not that bad, if you anything like me u have to use the default texturs given in the program (really should learn photoshop some day, and some more stuff in 3ds max, well i do have my uni lessons for the ). Still they would probably be ideal for a game and would help a lot in lowering rendering times. The one thing i can not understand is on scifi ships most people seem to like to do all these different pipes and stuff in the external of the ship, while it does look cool i cant understand it, the ship is in space so if everything is covered in a hull it has less chance of it being damaged. I am probably looking too much into it. Oh well.

Again cool models and i am eagerly waiting to see this "big scene" (not trying to add pressure on getting it done quick or very welll done or anything )

in addition i understand what your saying about exposed components and such and do agree.
but they do look cool and i do appreciate the amount of work and detail that sometimes goes into them. but i guess it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day?

many thanks.

well they are low poly compaired to a lot of my render hungry hypernurbed models.

the big scene idea is still needing some more models but i have a good idea of what i am after.

as for mapping and texturing, next on my to do list.
