Maxima, Princess of Almerac and heir to its throne, and her younger sister Minima prepare to head to Earth.Ok admittedly that was purely a fanfiction idea, and this is actually the Modern Era DC Maxima with the New 52 Maxima, but i felt that it would be better to accommodate fans of both versions by altering them to being siblings, with the idea that both obey the commands of Almeracs Empress, their mother ( they never really went into much clear detail about how Almerac worked but i figure it would be an Empress rather than an Emperor ruling ). Basically both versions could easily co-exist and you could get some interesting interactions from them in their differing attitudes.

I can already see Maxima demanding Superman's baby seed while Minima is hunting down Superboy daydreaming about their "Romantic" wedding Day... and Night, with both guys running from their newly acquired Fangirls, and Lois & Megan are yelling at the 2 Alien Bimbo's to "Lay off their men!" all the while Lex is Recording it for Blackmail. lol

I gotta say that while i like the look of Classic Maxima better.... I honestly find New 52 Maxima more appealing as a character.Β

Admittedly classic Maxima wasn't really meant to be appealing, initially. She started off as a dangerously powerful Superman antagonist, then going though some interesting character development she shifted from being mean spirited to genuinely heroic during her time in the Justice league in the early and mid 1990's ( which was largely tossed away in favour of pushing her back to a Superman antagonist again by the late 1990's, before she was killed off in 2001 ).

Oh don't get me wrong, I like Maxima, in fact I was pretty pissed when she got axed(Not as much as I was when they pulled the villain thing again for no real reason), but I'll admit when it comes to New 52 reinventions she got the better end of the deal than most characters did. And it doesn't just eliminate what her original character was about, at least initial motivations. Maybe this version DID go to Earth and try and seduce Clark, more out of duty than anything, and since she really wasn't into him had to force herself which lead to trying WAY too hard.... And yeah standard Superman/Maxima brawl ensues. Heck that'd scene if this DID happen like that and she meets Clark NOW and... She's dating Kara(FYI, I could honestly buy both Supergirl and Power Girl as gay... In fact during Power Girl's series she and Atlee WERE supposed to be dating, but DC shot that idea down).Β
Just imagine all the potential awkwardness of THAT one... The woman so gung-ho about getting into his pants... Is now dating his FEMALE cousin. XD

I think New 52 Maxima is a little on the young looking side to have tried to seduce Superman within the 5 years that DC set for Superman being active, and she doesn't seem as powerful as classic Maxima, nor as imperiously strident.
I have to say Maxima and Powergirl would have been around the top of my list of DC characters with no interest in the same gender, based on how they have been portrayed for years in the old DC Universe ( so i can understand the shooting down of the Karen/Atlee idea, it doesn't quite fit her ). There was even a fun conversation between Wonder Woman and Maxima about the topic years ago.
With the different personality and physical appearance i just find the New 52 Maxima too much of a different person to be given the same name. They would have been better off having the classic Maxima as New 52 versions older sibling.

That's true. They'd be more then enough. It's just that Maxima got stuck with her little sister because of their mothers command (as you've depicted). As for Big Barda,............... well her husband, Scott was busy doing Justice League shit (drinking contest) with Ted and Michael (and besting them), so she got burdened with babysitting Little Barda. LB, and Minima can still offer support............... you know, punch a few Parademons.Β

That was a good period
New 52 Maxima is seemingly younger, being more of Supergirls build and height than the originals 6ft plus amazonian shape, with a slightly different personality.

Yeah that period was sort of cut short / jumbled around because of the death of Superman, but there is a year's worth of material I guess? I've been trying to get the back issues. I appreciate them now more than back then I think!
I might check her new appearance out out of curiosity and love for the original!
