Description This is based on my concept for my Warhammer 40k Space Marine force, the Amythst Legion, a rogue Space Marine chapter that rather than raiding the Imperium it has broken away from, acts as a mercenary force, protecting various worlds in return for materials, technology or recruits.

Their habit for scavanging after the battle has resulted in a decidedly "Chaos Space Marine" look, and their lack of genetic technological support from the imperium has ment a greater reliance on expirimental cybernetics to match the performance of regular spacemarines.

Of greater concern to the Inquisition of the Imperium is their record of providing aid to the Tau, and to the Eldar. Their actions while deemed not of Chaos taint, have been classed as the actions of traitors.

The large robot in the background is a scavenged and heavily refitted dreadknight, the marine in the centre was given the tau helmet as a sign of respect, and at the front is a powersword wielding female recruit ( a sister of battle in all but name )

Are they an Iron Hands chapter? (since they like cyborging so much)

Good point, that would make sense for being the chapter they are descended from.

Excellent overall concept, do you have these guys done up as miniatures?

Thanks I did build the dreadnaught/dreadknight and the Tau helmeted guy with the powerfist, but i never did get around to making the female member.

Cool story, bro (no, really, if this faction was in Dawn of War, I would play with it). The female recruit is a nice detail.

I really like. The back story on them that you made is pretty good. If you decide to make a fan fic about then I would read it.

Would they have problem Aiding Tau against an imperial world?

Interesting point, but no, they would have no problem aiding tau against an imperial world and would try to ensure the transition went swiftly with as minimal loss of life, since they would regard the average human as having far more personal freedom under the apparently progressive Tau Empire than the oppressive and stagnant Imperium (this possibly naive attitude will most likely be their eventual undoing).

I would say that under Tau control its actually more oppressive than imperial

Thats why i gave them the "naive attitude" comment as their tragic, fatal flaw. They are idealists, they have visited the formerly imperial worlds held by the Tau and arguably have been taken in by the apparently benign and progressive rule, it is all about points of view.

In my background story for the Amythst Legion they witnessed countless act of callous and sickingly inhuman treatment towards the Imperiums helpless civilians and often heroic guardsmen by various groups of the Imperium itself.

Finding their protests against what they saw as the near psychotic actions of the more zealous agents of the Inquisition being logged and simply ignored, they looked at the Imperium and saw a wretched, uncaring, corrupt, unchanging system, they reluctantly broke away.

If there that "naive attitude" then it would be Ez for the Tau or even the Eldar to use em for there own ends.

And eventually that will dawn on the Amythst Legion, at which point they may

1)descend into chaos, becoming the very thing they increasingly look like, or

2)disband with the chapter breaking up and seeking their own way with the officers handing themselves over to the Imperium for execution, or

3)Continue as mercenaries but with their lofty beliefs replaced by embittered and cynical pragmatism. or

4) something else

I haven't decided yet on that part of their backstory, at the moment they are still in the "heroic idealist" phase.
