Of the Daemonic Primarchs, few are as tragic as Angron, the red angel. Effectively damned from the moment the psycho surgery implants known as the 'butchers nails' were hammered into his brain allowing nothing but violence to be enjoyed, and everything else to cause discomfort and even pain. Along with his harsh origins of being a child slave and forced to kill in the arenas of his world of Nuceria simply to survive, the odds were always against him compared to most of his fellow primarch brothers.

Perhaps the saddest thing is that in his youth Angron displayed a remarkable empathic ability to calm and reassure others, from which he might well have become a positive and diplomatic warrior akin to the angelic Sanguinius, and able to calm his own legions violent excesses. Alas the butchers nails obliterated what he could have been, as the implants constantly drove him to fits of artificially induced rages and forever clouded his judgement and thinking.

Following his transformation to a Daemon Primarch of Khorne during the Horus Heresy, i always thought Angron, having been freed of the nails effects, should have gained far greater focus and clarity of thought, with greater concerns on his own martial pride and honour. I was always a little disappointed that writers kept him a blood crazed maniac, little different from any of Khornes other demonic servants, i'm hoping some writers will make adjustments at some point.
