Description
With my messed-up hand, all I can do right now is color., So, I started tarting up the DC Women poster.************************
WOW. Lotta comments on this one. As for the requests to 'tart up' the rest of the poster.... that's the eventual plan.

The one on the left is soooooo art noveau! absolutely gorgeous! My fav style!
Her face expression and her hands are so classical, it's really beautiful!

I was reading in one of the DC Nation things at the back of a comic how Dan Didio gave you a hard time about adding in Catwoman, only to flip-flop on his decision by saying how glad he was that you added her in. That was a really hilarious article
At the first NY Comic Con, Jim Lee, Jim Steranko, and Neal Adams were saying how if artist B can convey the same thing as artist A using less lines, artist B is the better artist. It's pictures like these that make me a big fan of your work because you prove that time and time again. That's also why you've been a huge inspiration on my creative process as an artist and my designs for female characters.
Are you planning on coming up to the New York Comic Con in February '09?

Thank you for your comments, and no, I won't be at the New York show: I wasn't invited.
Happy Holidays!

Wait.... not invited? You should definitely be a guest of honor! I think they're still working that out for the NYCC, and I think there's a way to contact them about it, but I'm not sure. If not, you should definitely try for the show in 2010.

Well, they tried inviting me to the first one they did a few years ago, and they wanted me to make my own travel & hotel arrangements (which is not what conventions normally ask of guests) and they offered to reimburse me for my travel expenses AFTER the show (also not usually done) and the amount they were going to reimburse me wasn't enough to cover even the most basic of flights and the cheapest of hotels. All this while another guest was flown in and put up at a four-star Manhattan hotel.
I don't expect royal treatment, just travel expenses arranged & provided for like all the other conventions. But I also refuse to be treated like a third-class citizen, or an idiot.
If the New York show wants me, they have my number.

That's horrible! I can't believe they would do that to you.
I think the company that runs the convention, Reed Expo, doesn't really do comic conventions of this sort other than the NYCC, New York Anime Festival, and a few others on the East Coast.... and I've had my issues with them as well, so I can understand your grievances. Also, welcome to good ol' overpriced New York City.... home sweet home, but hopefully not for long..... the simpler lifestyle suits my own tastes better.
And as for the other member, let me take a guess..... Jim Lee? I mean, he's referred to on the NYCC blog as the closest thing the Comic Book Industry has to a rock star (not to mention having to wait in line for three hours to get my copy of Batman: Absolute Hush signed, and that was toward the front of the line.... ), so that would be my best guess.....
But that's still no excuse. Have you tried any of the smaller conventions in NYC, such as the Big Apple Con? I think they're run by a different organization.

Traditional media?! seriously?! the right one looks so digital and cool though.

The gallery options here suck. It's a traditional pen & ink illustration, colored in Photoshop. They don't have a gallery setting for a mixed media peice that is part traditional, part digital....

It's just hard for me to believe that you color in Photoshop. Some of your stuff looks like you used traditional methods on board or canvas. However the detailed close-up of Wonder Woman's face blew my mind as to how much you put into it. I simply was floored when seeing so many little patches of color, shades, tints, and all. Man, I don't know where you got your eye from, but you rock, pure and simple. Too mucking fuch!!!!
Rock on...

Very nice.
Obviously the re-work looks a lot more sharp and real but I also quite like the original as it gave, to my eyes, a nice 'art-deco' poster feel.

I read the note about the story of Catwoman and the other 10 characters, jaja, and I must say: I'm totally agree with you, Catwoman is one of the best female characters in DC Universe.
Excellent work!

Oh, I totally heard about that. What happened exactly, I heard from someone at your booth that you were at a convention and the chairs were easily breakable and somehow you broke your hand. That's really to bad because you are so talented. How long do they figure it will take for a recovery?
Anyways, I can't believe anyone could colour this well with a broken hand. You are a god! Man, I envy you.

AdamHughes In reply to MrsJ [2008-08-07 04:28:20 +0000 UTC]
It's not really a broken hand. The stupid folding chairs they gave us at HeroesCon were really rickety, and I was leaning back to get a ruler that had fallen. When the chair gave way, my hand was about 6 inches from the ground, so that was what hit the ground first and hardest.
The actual damage is: I tore the collateral ligament that runs up the side of the thumb, and it took a piece of bone with it when it went.
Thanks for inquiring, though!

Wellll.... the books have to go to press at a certain time, on a certain date. If the art isn't done enough for MY tastes, but DC is happy with it, they print it as is.
However, since I complete all my art here at my studio and submit it to DC electronically, then I consider it my personal prerogative if I wish to "add" to the art by completeing it to my satisfaction.

valiantonov In reply to AdamHughes [2008-08-06 08:55:48 +0000 UTC]
I believe it would be a wonderful poster or print. Looking forward to see it all finished.
By the way Adam, when will the all star wonder woman come out? You said you finished with all your art there? If not, I don't think we have to wait until you finished all of it. Jim lee's all star batman's been late and he's still in wizard top ten artist.
Well, I've been dying to buy it. I'd like to have wonder woman books with your arts on it. Not just the cover. Once it come out on absolute format, for sure I bought it as well.

What does the term "tarting" mean? I've never really heard the word before.

"Tarting up" means putting on make-up and looking sexy. When it comes to art, I guess I man that I'm throwing on a few extra laters of paint for the purposes of sexiness..... you know, like a tart!
