First built in 2195 and commissioned in 2196 the Veracruz-class cruiser is the first Alliance warship to heavily incorporate Reaper technology and designs in its construction. Almost all of its systems from power generation to propulsion, defense systems, and sensors take design cues from studies on Reaper hulls putting it ahead of the rest of the cruiser fleet in capabilities. Several of these innovations also helped reduce the minimum crew requirements and increase the internal hold capacity compared to other cruisers. As such this ship carries two fighter squadrons, instead of the usual one squadron, and 60 marines with enough craft necessary to transport them to their missions.

Currently the Navy has produced only this prototype as it continues to study the design for future iterations of this ship and any others that also incorporate Reaper designs. Pictured here is the SSV Veracruz in late 2195 carrying out shakedown trials. It's escort, the cruiser SSV Boston, is flying alongside to both observe the ship's performance as well as partake in test maneuvers against the Veracruz. Both vessels would be forced into action as a security situation arises near the batarian homeworld of Khar'shan.

I love the design of Alliance warships but it always bothered me how lightly armed they look. No visible turrets for example and I can't see the purpose for the wings. When looked from the front or pack they look too thin and fragile. From above they look sleek though.

My favourite one ! I love the profile, looks like a new generation of cruisers with a little side of Dreadnought.

Do you know the heavy cruiser's length when compared with its cruiser counterpart in your artwork?

A classic case of exposure inspired art. There is no drag in empty space. So even a cube could do the job.

I really do like the mass effect style! I am impressed at how you can make these scenes look so dynamic yet legible, I am having trouble there.

A beautiful ship.My only problem with this design, it doesn't have secondary weapons.Meaning big railgun turrets or something similar. The ship isn't designed to fight medium and short distances.

Oh it has all weapons hidden under the hull - commissioner wanted it to be rather sleek on the outside.

Well I don't have any plans for other ships, but there is one more commission on the way for the ME universe, so be sure to watch out for that one. It will most likely be a month or so before it's done though.

just gonna point out its a little odd that the veracruz is burning her engines but the escort isn't
not sure if that's intentional or not but it strikes me as an over site

other than that i really like the design

it keeps well within the alliance fleet aesthetic while being different enough to give it a unique "personality"
i like the way the bow "bumps" up, it looks like the head a great dragon, making the port and starboard hulls seem like wings being held tight to the body as it dives in for an attack!

BigTallDude In reply to stevoE26 [2014-03-30 10:54:09 +0000 UTC]

Maybe the escort was a point ship that has declared the area clear, so the main ship is now catching up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

stevoE26 In reply to BigTallDude [2014-03-30 13:57:10 +0000 UTC]

a valid point but it states that the ship is on shakedown run
as far as i understand that means i general flight and systems test in a safe area

op also states that the escort will be conducting mock engagements against the veracruz
also reinforcing the point that this is a safe area

that said, perhaps the veracruz is accelerating away from the escort so as to gain enough distance between the two to start a mock battle
its fun to try and figure this out

AdamKop In reply to stevoE26 [2014-03-30 18:17:55 +0000 UTC]

Haha that might be the case in here I guess that the escort ship might just as well be stationary for the moment because it wanted to get in the picture frame

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

stevoE26 In reply to AdamKop [2014-03-30 21:00:31 +0000 UTC]

i read that and pictured the captain of the escort screaming...

"ALL ENGINES STOP!!!"
"i just got this ship repainted, i am NOT gonna miss a photo opportunity!" haha

i love your work and over site or not, IL smile whenever i see this picture now
