I like this version of the fighter design a lot! It's a lot more aerodynamic looking than many SW fighters.
You've done a few X-wings, did you ever do one of the XJ-X-Wing versions developed during the Yuuzhan Vong war?

Hmmm, this shares a lot of the design cues of the ARC-170 fighters from RoTS. I thought the vehicles in that movie were a fascinating halfway point between the sleek, smooth ships introduced early on in the prequel era, and the stripped down, utilitarian, used and abused looked of the original trilogy's vehicles. I can totally see this ship flying alongside the likes of the Arc well after the clone wars ended, had things gone differently.

Yeah that was the idea I always felt like the change from ARCs to Xwings was a bit too hard.

Eh, I see the Headhunters (also used during the clone wars) as a more direct ancestor. In any case, it's neat to see the story justifications they've come up with to explain why everything looks the way it does after the empire takes over. Why do the formerly bulkier and more flush Y-Wings look so stripped down and exposed? Cause they were literally being scrapped in a junkyard when the rebels acquired them... and leaving them like that without replacing all the outer panels makes it easier for mechanics to perform maintenance, and any blast strong enough to break through their new shields would just tear through the old armor anyway. Welp! >shrugs<

Really well done! My only issue is that the Engines seem to be very close together. It looks like it would have trouble closing its S-Foils.

I suspect it doesn't have the ability to close its S-Foils. This is the A-Model, the wing folding could've been the main feature of the T-65B.

The S-foils could move independent of the engines on this model. that panel on top could act as a connector that shields the mechanism or something.

Very interesting-INDEED.
Different and refreshing lines-I especially like the way you rendered the cockpit glass frame.

Yup, I see it; this is credibly what the Incom T-65 Project Team handed the Rebellion when they defected (per original storyline[s]).

(Quoting myself from 's page) :
Honestly, it's so well done as an in-between that I can totally see this being the actual proof-of-concept the Incom design team gave to the bosses, before the engineers got to working.
Like the YF- version of a F- fighter, in USAF terms.

Oh yeah I guess that something like this would be made if a brand new model was supposed to surface.

That was the plan from the start Engines are a bit smaller than usual since the're from the ARC-170 (the general shape) and they looked a bit weird when normal-sized.

Thanks Tried to make the traditional X-Wing with a bit of influences from the ARC170.

Just after [Ep6] Incom builds the T-65a to replace aging and largely unspaceworthy worn out T-65's. Originally built for the New Republic, cleaned up, streamlined, with better hull, frame, system designs, the T-65a extends the T-65 line up for another 10-15 years. This newer version is tougher as damage mitigation is far better than the previous ship. Hits that would damage or disable the T-65 either do far less harm or none at all, to a T-65a. It is said the ship can not be downed or destroyed until its shields completely fail.
Its aerodynamically designed wings, while pointless in space, make it a terror to opponents in atmosphere giving the T-65a unparalleled maneuverability and agility where most starfighters in atmosphere faulty or fail utterly. This feature however did not last into following models. This is due mainly to the overall shape of the X-wing type. without forward control surfaces the T-65a was vastly more maneuverable but could just as easily get completely away from the pilot during rapid successions of maneuvers.
Weapons load out is still largely the same, but its laser canons use the entire wing structure to cool and house their primary charging systems. This was done for aerodynamics but do add ease of maintain as the internal modules are easier to pull and swap in the field.
The biggest drawback to this design revamp, that kept it from influencing future designs, was it was literally twice as expensive to built a T-65A than the regular T-65. The shape philosophy however was pursued for the VVA-212 Starfighter. Designed for planetary defense in and out of atmosphere, the ship was amazingly potent but amazingly expensive as well. The ship was not widely used due to its cost, but examples are still being made 30 years after the T-65 was discontinued, with updated versions still a deadly match for modern TIE Fighters and the T-85.
But wealthy systems breaking away from Imperial doctrine, wishing to protect their prized pilots, would buy T-65a's, until they were finally withdrawn from manufacture to make room for the more advanced T-75.
The T-65a is heralded as the grand sendoff of one of the most accomplished and effective starfighters in centuries.

This is what should've been in the prequels in place of the ARC-170. This just looks so much cooler. Well done.

They also could have used some Z-95 in the 3rd movie since this was the forerunner of the T-65B X-Wing.

Thanks I still liked the ARC design, but the transition was way too quick since we saw nothing similar in Ep1 or 2 and then boom, X-Wing-esque ship and that's it.

I liked the heavier ARC-170. I wish we had seen an X-Wing Version of it at least in Episode 3 for some moments.

I think it'd be really cool if we see a New Republic version of the ARC-170 in any of the upcoming films, like a heavy X-Wing.
