Description
[update]I uploaded a new image with fixed shadows, windows and laser turrets.
Finished drawing of my custom Nebulon C class frigate. This one is supposed to be the most advanced in Nebulon line, placed both after my own Nebulon A and Nebulon B from the Star Wars original trilogy:

If they are smart they would, fans have passion and passion is a huge motivator. Your skills in concepting and modelling is excellent, you've create most of my favourite fan designs for Star Wars.

Yeah but judging by the modern company standards, I guess they will need someone who can do a lot of work in a short time and be cost-effective

I think this type of attitude leads to the less quality shows and work we now see on TV compared to 10 years ago. All the good shows are cancelled due to being too expensive despite their popularity.

Yeah in earlier shows they had literally tens of artists designing tons of stuff, and now the studios are full of supervisors, managers and dozens of other people who just look at things. I know it might sound silly, but Joker from the Dark Knight was spot-on with his saying that people plan too much. Planning doesn't work in creative department. You can tell a modeler to do three ships that he has on his desk, but you can't order a man to design 20 different ships and hope that one looks good. I had one person tell me to do 4 designs of a ship and he will choose the best. It ended before it began but only for the good, because my next reply would be "if I feel like it, I will do 30 ships and if not, I will make 2". People, mostly business-oriented minds just don't know that creativity doesn't run on anything and it's unpredictable.

Truer words never spoken, a lot of these higher ups don't have an understanding of how an artist works or how art is created. It can't be rushed can't be given a timeframe and expect the best possible out of it.
I doubt I could ever work in the industry for that simple fact.

I agree, many say if you can turn a hobby into a job then it's the best job you can have. I'm of the opposite opinion as if you turn something you enjoy into a job chances are you'll loose your enjoyment from it.

AdamKop In reply to Majestic-MSFC [2012-11-16 13:39:21 +0000 UTC]
Well, if YOU turn it into a job then it's good. Things are different if you're doing that job and have someone above you in the business. That's what sucks the most. I can't imagine someone looking over my shoulder and shouting "moar ships, we need three extra buildings and a space station done in 1 hour and 43 minutes !"

Majestic-MSFC In reply to AdamKop [2012-11-16 23:38:27 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I agree entirely. I am rather slow in my creative processes and that's how I like it. As you say you can't rush an artist.

It is better now, somehow the brown hull remind of a slaver ship from Enterprise season 1.

Some wear on the hull, discoloured panels - and she it there

Yeah I will have to make an update on it If you look closely the panels are already there - some light pink, blue and green ones but they're really faint. I will add windows and weapons as well.

This looks like a speed variant. With the tight angled nose it also presents a smaller target. Great design!

AdamKop In reply to ccbig [2012-11-12 14:33:01 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Indeed it's meant to be much more speed oriented design, because the Nebulon B could easily be used as a target practise

A bit of both actually Torpedo launchers and some hidden turrets are surely on it, but I was unsure about drawing visible armament on it. I will draw in some small turrets on an update though, because I somehow turned off one layer of paint and some small details are missing colors.

Phaeton99 In reply to ??? [2012-11-11 19:13:21 +0000 UTC]
It certainly seems to fit in the lineage. It appears as though it could have modules attached below the bow, not unlike the canon Nebulon-B frigate... though hopefully not so ridiculously many.

AdamKop In reply to Phaeton99 [2012-11-11 19:18:23 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Once I started adding details I realised that it could quickly become a bit too complex for the ship it is supposed to be. I might make some modifications when doing the 3D model.

Arsanthania In reply to ??? [2012-11-10 18:36:44 +0000 UTC]
I like the design, but it doesn't have much of a nebulon feel. It seems almost like it's more of a Hoersch-Kessel designed ship, with more emphasis plates that cover vital components (like the Munificent-class star frigate), whereas the nebulon frigate series was always JUST functionality, and were rather bulky. The Nebulon-B and Nebulon-B2 are very distinct in having the very unique design of two pods connected with a bar, which while it was a "design flaw," probably wouldn't be removed from the ship series. /lore shenanigans/
It really just looks like a slightly scaled down half of a Munificent CIS frigate that was flipped over (in my opinion, of course), but it's a cool and functional design nevertheless. (yay for critique-ish comment that will probably get me haterz)
I would still give the design 8/10 to 9/10 for uniqueness of design within the Star-Wars universe, though I've seen that style quite a few other places. Nevertheless, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the in-depth review I actually appreciate these kinds of comments much more than the short ones (of course when possible).
I agree on the fact that it looks much more aggressive and angular than a typical Rebel ship, but since a lot of them originated from Imperial vehicles I decided to add plating that would resembe an Imperial vessel. As for the design of this ship, I based it on my Nebulon A and stripped away some parts of it, while altering the shape of the hull a bit.
With that being said, I will still add some more greebles and extruded parts that will resemble the popular Rebel ships a bit more.
I will try to update the ship as soon as possible

Arsanthania In reply to AdamKop [2012-11-11 19:26:52 +0000 UTC]
I wasn't necessarily saying that it didn't look like a Rebel ship-the Rebel Alliance were scavengers, and even used the famously Imperial Star Destroyers as well as the TIEs at some points through the campaign. However, the Kuat Shipyards Nebulon design had the very distinct two-pod design held together by a long bar, and was primarily for escort duty. The rebels saw the ship as a mini-capital frigate, even though it really can't stand up even to the Victory-II class destroyer.
Nevertheless, I like the design, but it seems like it's more of a ship designed FOR the alliance, rather than one that was "cannibalized" in the rebellion's desperate grab for resources. I like how you took pieces of the design from your Nebulon A, but the ship just doesn't seem to fit the "Nebulon" line. If that makes sense. Naming conventions and such shenanagins can be confusing-your designs would be in the same series, but not of the Nebulon line of ships, probably something more like...I dunno. But not Nebulon, is what I'm trying to say. :s
