Description The Droseraceae is a world-wide family all of whose species are carnivorous, supplementing their nutrition by trapping and ingesting small insects. The family is well represented in Australia with about 100 species of Drosera.

In order to capture insects, the leaves are covered with sticky glands on the upper surface. The leaf glands digest the trapped insects by secretion of enzymes assisted by bacterial action.

I was about to say, "that's a weird rotundifolia." But then I saw that you're in Australia, so it could be a number of different species I've never even seen before.

After over 20 years of wandering around the Australian bush, I still think the plants here are awesome.

Thank you. I loved you poem.
I didn't know that these grew in England. Ah, but I had two small children then and nature wasn't a high priority in my life.

There are quite a few carnivorous plant species in the UK, the Sundew is the beautiful one

Thank you. It is growing in sand. I never cease to be amazed at the number of plants that grow under such conditions.

great shot. i love those little plants, it's interesting how you can find them around the world, while most others are restricted to certain parts of the world...except weeds that man brigns along.

Oh yes! I see weeds everywhere in our native bushland. Such a sad sight as they take over quite quickly.

hapens here too, especially with N. American plants, they seem to be most invasive here perhaps because of the climate.
