Description
Inspired partially by Anerdymous' alternate timeline smash roster on his Twitter.Bomberman and Rayman renders made by
Ms. Pac-Man render made by
Now let's get into the juicy stuff here:
Smash 64: (Orange)
-In this timeline, Meowth was chosen over Jigglypuff due to the former having a prominent role in the anime and being seen as a psuedo-rival to Pikachu.
-Bowser was also included in this version, serving as the penultimate opponent of Classic Mode instead of Metal Mario, complete with his own Bowser's Castle stage. You unlocked him and his stage by beating Classic Mode on the hardest difficulty with every other character.
Melee: (Purple)
-In this timeline, Melee didn't release until 2002, giving it more development time.
-Since Ruby & Sapphire were releasing the same year, there was advocation for a Hoenn Pokemon to be in the game to promote it. They settled on Blaziken and basically just made him the Captain Falcon clone instead of Ganondorf. Blaziken was cut from Brawl and Smash 4, but returned in Ultimate with a slightly revamped moveset (Fire Punch now being Blaze Kick, still functionally the same as Falcon Punch but with different properties and animations), keeping him from being an Echo Fighter.
-Wario's here now. That's it. His moveset is more inspired by Wario Land rather than being mostly made up, though still has some Smash original moves like the Corkscrew and Wario Waft.
-Ganondorf has a more unique moveset, mainly based on his boss fight from Ocarina of Time.
-Banjo & Kazooie were included due to Rare and Nintendo's relationship and their games on the N64 being very popular. They were planned to return in Brawl, but Microsoft buying out Rare threw a wrench in that plan, and they didn't return in Smash 4 either. When Ultimate was revealed, they were the characters used to highlight the "Everyone is Here" aspect.
-Sonic was able to make the cut this time around, serving as a super secret character you unlocked by either clearing All-Star Mode with everyone else or playing 2,000 VS matches.
Brawl: (Red)
-Kojima did request Snake for Melee just like in our timeline, but once again it was too late to add him. Sakurai tried to get him for Brawl, but Konami offered Bomberman instead, thinking he would fit better with Smash's family friendly audience. Sakurai agreed since Bomberman was a requested character. He tried to get Snake for Smash 4, but at that point Kojima had left Konami and they wanted nothing to do with his characters. Because of this, Snake in Smash unfortunately never happened in this timeline.
-When giving the royalties to bring back Sonic, the higher ups at SEGA egged on the development team to also add in Shadow, due to the character's popularity at the time. Sakurai conceded. Not an Echo Fighter; While he is a semi-clone of Sonic, his specials utilize his unique Chaos abilities.
-Yep, Geno actually happened in this timeline. Basically taking R.O.B.'s place as the surprise character with an important role in the Subspace Emissary.
Smash 4: (Blue)
-Sheik was cut from this version due to not being relevant since Ocarina of Time, and since they were making Zelda separate anyway. Sakurai didn't want to abandon the moveset however, and a compromise was reached by including Impa, based on her Skyward Sword appearance as that was the most recent mainline game at the time. She basically played the same as Sheik, so when Ultimate brought them both back, Impa was labelled as an Echo since Sheik came first.
-Alph was given his own character slot. He uses rock Pikmin instead of Olimar's purple, though this is mostly a cosmetic difference. He's labelled as an Echo Fighter in Ultimate.
-Bandana Waddle Dee was included as a newcomer due to a spike in the character's popularity after Return to Dreamland.
-Ridley was introduced in Smash 4, sharing a trailer with Rosalina since they both have a space theme.
Smash 4 DLC: (Light Blue)
-Sakurai stood his ground on the Corrin situation this time, wanting to wait and see how Fates was received before including him. It was a success but not as much of one as expected, and the games had very mixed reviews. Because of this, they decided against Corrin.
-Rayman was labelled as the winner of the Fighter Ballot, due to needing to fill up a slot and having already negotiated with Ubisoft to get the Rayman trophies in the base game.
Ultimate:
-Ms. Pac-Man as an Echo Fighter instead of Chrom. Because why not.
-ARMS was much further in development by the time of desiging the roster and was pretty much guaranteed to come out before Smash, so Spring Man was included with Ribbon Girl as an Echo Fighter, albeit one with very different properties. Spring Stadium was included as a stage in the base game.
-Alucard was included over the Belmonts this time.
-Decidueye was included over Incineroar this time.
-Waluigi was the bonus pre-fighter pass DLC character instead of Piranha Plant.
Fighter Passes:
I honestly don't have as much reasoning for the picks here.
-Crash was chosen to fill in our timeline's Banjo's spot of platformer mascot.
-Dante ended off the fighter pass this time.
-Byleth started off the second fighter pass due to ARMS having base game content.
-Goku was included for Sakurai to end on the most bombastic note possible and shattering another notion about newcomers. And totally not just me saying "fuck it" 'cause I couldn't think of anyone else to add.
I own absolutely nothing here.

Great roster but I honestly don't think Goku will ever be added.
