Description Here's an illo that I drew (and lettered!) for the header of the letters column in DIRTY PAIR: SIM HELL, if I recall correctly. It's a very old piece, but I kinda like it anyway... This despite the fact that the illo features what I now call a "one-eyed monster" shot of Yuri's face. Inexplicably, in the early 90s I would often cover up a character's far eye with their hair (in a three-quarters view of the face, as seen here), then proceed to misplace the eye that you COULD see too close to the center of the head. I haven't the slightest idea why the heck I was taking this lazy and unattractive shortcut, back then; but then again, the early 90s were a strange time, after all.

The lettercol's title was a very clever suggestion from a reader, referring of course to the infamous Bikini Atoll, site of nuclear-weapon tests aplenty during the 40s and 50s (and the source for the two-piece swimsuit's nickname, natch).

Can I just say, Adam Warren sir, that I found a copy of one of your Dirty Pair collections (the one with Shasti in) for sale at a flea market when I was younger, still a brat in high school. Back then, I was ready to give up comics and such. That comic reknewed my interest. I posted it here because this art style is how I remembered Kei and Yuri looking back in that comic I still have. Thank you so very much ^^

I didn't see this lettercol illo until way after I picked up the compilation paperback, when I finally bought copies of the original issues.

Have you any of the other lettercol art on hand? I've got posted [bottom of [link] the one you did for the Biohazards issues, where you render the Pair in Dokite's style (a true rarity!).

I had no idea why it was called "Bikini et all" :laugh: But I have many a joyous teen memory connected to that logo. And I luvs yer "one-eyed" monster look and all the other experimentation you do. It's cool to see your thoughts on stuff that I stared at for so many hours of my life though.

I remember some VERY good letters and Sim Hell is one of my favorite things ever. I just love the f*cking hell out of all your Dirty Pair though, down to the dialog and every last line. Now that I'm a bit older, I took it out and began to re-enjoy it and I saw the efforts you must have gone to create plausible plots that nicely exploited the ladies for "fanservice" (which I loved) yet you ALWAYS had this sense of humor to it. You were Galaxy Quest before it was around. The stuff was friggin' clever and to me, never sexist and if so, only in the best ways.

You just rub all my right comic book buttons like Go Nogai, Ippongi Bang, and Kenichi Sonda. It's like you're a creator who is also a fan at the core so..you get it. Yeah, you're kind of a hero of mine without over doing it. If you'll allow me to say. I can't imagine growing up without your work.

Ah, those were the days. Actually this was how the pair looked when I first met them in around '96 or so when reading the final part of Fatal, but Not Serious in the now long-deceased Manga Mania/Max. So I've got a strong love for the older artwork

Hmm...I do remember the picture, though...I think it was from "A Plague of Angels." I could very well be wrong, so I guess it's off to my comic boxes to discover the truth. ~snickers~

Still, a great piece of my favourite manga gals.

The bikini was invented by a creepy old French guy, but I still love the product.

What man doesn't? He may have been a creepy old French guy, but he knew how to please the eye with somebody else's body!

He's not alone! The mini skirt was invented by a woman! I think she was a... Fly honey.

The early 90's were a strange and confusing time. We were still channeling the 80's, but trying to modernize.

You know, Yuri's eye doesn't look so bad. But her leg's look really out of place to me! Must be my astigmatism. ^_^;
