Behold, the opening double-page spread for EMPOWERED vol. 2, the newest collection of my "sexy superhero comedy" published by Dark Horse (due out October '07). This illo goes on pages 2 and 3 of the TPB, and will feature a finished EMPOWERED logo stretching across both pages in the final version (and typeset credits for the book, as well), as opposed to the "for position only" Sharpie scrawls currently in place.In the interests of promotion, I should point out that you can preorder EMPOWERED vol. 2 (due out Sept. '07, as mentioned earlier) online at either:

Random note: As of 7/08/07, EMP vol. 1 just went from an Amazon.com ranking of roughly #22,000 to #9181, mysteriously enough.

This might sound surprising, but my favorite part of this is the sock-monkey and controller wire aroud her legs. I really grock the flow of that design. The whole pic looks nice, but that looks especially playful.

While you're in manga/anime style, you have nothing to worry about in the sales department.
If suddenly an editor asks you to "make me a super hero history, but try to make it in Stan Lee style, like marvel or DC, ok? No anime crap.", expect a disaster! Never do that, man! NEVER!

Empowered vol.2 isn't an option. It's a must have. Everyone I know loves vol.1 and will definitely get vol.2 as well. Maybe this time us west coasters won't have to wait an extra week for it. :\

That's quite a jump in figures. I'm hoping Amazon didn't just feel bad for you and make something up. It seems rude that way. I did make my purchase of Emp 01 this weekened, and I have to say I'm super excited for it to arrive!

Re: Amazon, my guess would be that you don't have to sell all that many more copies to move up in the rankings, especially when you're WAAAAY out in the sales boondocks (i.e., out in the thousands)...

Yep... I just received approval from Dark Horse for EMP vol. 3, due out in March '08! Wheee! (And, I hope, many more volumes beyond that... but the first three books' sales will determine whether or not future installments come to pass.)
