Description
Here's the final version of a new Empowered illustration, the rough for which you can see here: [link] ...and an "in-progress" version of the half-completed piece here: [link]Anyhoo, this sketch is meant as a reward for entries to this contest: [link] As a consolation prize for Empowered readers outside the US and Canada who weren't eligible for Dark Horse's "win a copy of the Empowered Deluxe hardcover" contest [link] , I had folks submit their fave characters in the journal's comments thread. Then, I was supposed to chose one entry and do an all-new sketch of the faved character in question. Well, given that only 9 characters total* were faved by non-US/Canadian readers, I decided to do a group shot of all of 'em at once.
So, here you go, Empowered readers; hope you like the illo! Thanks for all the kind words about your favorite Empverse characters, which were very much appreciated by this graphite-smudged wretch.**
More info on on Empowered Deluxe Edition Vol. 1: It collects the first three volumes of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series Empowered in a big, bold, brawny, 712-page $59.99 hardcover printed on pretty, pretty paper and including 40-odd pages of bonus material.
The book's already on the shelves of your Local Comics Retailer, and should be available in conventional bookstores shortly. Alternatively, you can order it now from Dark Horses's online retail site here, at a 10% savings: [link] You can also preorder it from Amazon here: [link]
As mentioned above, in addition to 650+ pages of earlier material (printed on much nicer paper, this time), the book features a bonus section comprising 40-odd pages of extra material, as flogged by "Metatextual Emp" here: [link] That includes early developmental versions of what would later become Empowered, unused story pages, con sketches, story notes, logo variations, assorted work stages (roughs, pencils, color guides) for the series' front and back cover illustrations, and so on.
Here's a wee 6-page preview of said bonus section: [link]
In closing, I must of course paste in the requisite general-purpose Emp-related floggery: Print copies of Empowered's first six volumes (and a pair of one-shots in comics format) can be found on the shelves of your Local Comics Retailer or bookstore, or online at Dark Horse's retail website [link] or on Amazon.com [link] .
All the existing Empowered books can be purchased rather more cheaply in digital form as well, via the Dark Horse Digital store: [link] Note, however, that this Empowered Deluxe Edition will remain a "print-only" proposition.
*Plus Emp's supersuit, which kinda-sorta counts as a 10th character, but I didn't bother to draw it separately.
**As opposed to the more common phrase "ink-stained wretch"; I'm far more often inundated with pencil-lead dust than ink, nowadays.

Ninjette seems like she might be a little buzzed in this picture. Also, Ocelotina's face is just too darn adorable and her happiness is infectious. Very nice work, as usual, good sir!

Ninjette seems happy there grabbing a piece of Emp's ass.
Pretty nice pic, and I hope whoever gets it will be pleased!

Such a Beautiful piece....
...although I guess this means I missed the deadline for entering the competition for us non-united states residents.
On the plus side.. there's no deadline for enjoying Mr Warren's beautiful art (can't wait for my copy of the hardcover to arrive.. it'll be interesting to see how it all looks on the differnt paper).

Darn, Sista Spooky got such little page space. I guess that's what she gets for being so mean to Emp...

Thought this would only be Emp and her friends, but no, there's Sistah Spooky on the corner and two other guys.
I'm guessing you were trying to fill in some empty space, but why not use someone more likeable and/or memorable?

Check the text: This illo is a prize (of sorts) for Empowered readers from outside the US and Canada, who were asked to comment re: their favorite Empverse characters. These are the nine entities who were faved by those readers.

So I see. I must've skipped that part thinking it was more info on a new volume; price, availability, etc.
So wait, the Weregiraffe and the chick with the Tower of Pisa on her head were more popular than, say, Captain Rivet? I mean, he's not a favorite of mine at all, but as far as jerks go, he's not that much of one.
Maybe that's how secondary characters gain popularity in this series. The less that's seen of you, the less readers know how unlikeable you truly are.

Obviously a talented artist, yet you use trolling to get attention. You've certainly got issues.

Thanks for putting Mindf*** and Ocelotina up front with Emp and Ninjette. Mindf*** had some great lines in the brief time she was in the story, and Ocelotina is just too damned funny. Nice work, and I eagerly await vol. 7.

He's mentioned in several of the books, and shown in one panel in book 4.
Thats why I requested him, we haven't seen him enough

Mmm... when i download the full res image, i can see that the paper texture is radically different from mine, almost like canvas for oil painting... i recently skeched over canvas and the result looks pretty much like this.
One of AdamΒ΄s secrets must be a special kind of paper

Adam, the Alt-Prize (better than a "No-Prize") is wacky-wonderful. I really do like Emp, but this sketch only makes me REALLY like Ninjette more... I feel all dirty, like I'm cheatin'.
